SunRoof Shade noise

Hello,

I get a horrible squeaking sound when opening and closing my sunroof shade. Is there an easy solution besides not using? My rear slide window make grinding noise when opening and closing as an added bonus. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!!

The sunroof itself does have rails that require lubrication. I check those guide rails regularly to be sure they are clean. Have not needed to lubricate them yet.

I have not checked the shade, perhaps it needs lube also?

What year, make and model? How many miles do you have on it?

My 2017 (10/17 build date) with 5k miles had the exact sun shade noise you are describing. The dealership replaced it in a couple of days. Let me correct myself...the dealership sent it to a sunroof shop to replace it.

I have a October 2916 build 2017 F350 Crew LB, never ever heard noise from the shade or the rear slider. It’s a Lariat Ultimate. I would definitely take to the dealer and have it noted from warranty perspective. Not normal, can it be replicated, does it always do it, take video of it doing it it.

Mine is also a lariat ultimate. It can be heard every time. I will take it in. My rear slider sounds like sand in a gearbox. It was quiet for the first 2 months of ownership, lol.

I have a 2017 F-250 Platinum with 22,000 miles. I open the sun shade almost everyday in the winter for the drive to work and close it while I'm at work. So, it gets cycled pretty regularly.

No squeak at all.

I have never lubed the rails, but I may take a look and see if there is access to wipe some silicone lube on them.

Sunroof shade inop

Does anybody have any info on how to gain access to the Sun Shade Motor and Shade Assembly?
I just bought my 2016 Transit connect and the dealer informed me that it was inop and had a $3000 estimate to change the motor. Can't be that big a deal....or maybe I am wrong. Maybe they hanged a motor from a string and built the Van around it.
Any info will be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks.

My shade was making the same noise as described and even some popping....the dealer replaced it without hesitation

I just bought the Van used and it is out of warranty. They told me about it but didn't want to fix it.
I, however, will find a way.

Billmnfl see the other thread on $200 fix of sunroof rails. It’s in this forum 2017+ Superduties. Aftermarket, bit of a job but reports great results for much less than $3000 repair.
