Metal plate bolted to cab between bed/cab

I have what appears to be a cast metal plate, thick and oddly shaped, between the bed and the cab, bolted through the cab wall under the back glass. Wondering what it is... seems the nuts are in the gap and headless bolts (does that make them pins?) are behind the bench seatback. There also might be a plate (thinner) inside the cab supporting the 'pin' heads.

This has been brought up in the past...

If I remember correctly, it's a vibration damper.

What's odd is they're not on all trucks. Old shop truck had it (1995) but my 1996 doesn't & never has (far as I know). Same body's.

My 93 has one. I wonder if there is a specific engine/tranny combos or what triggers that a truck gets one.

mine is 95 XLT SC.SWB, 4x4, 5.8L E4OD, no sliding back glass, no damper, like subford pic shows? Maybe it helps keep that 'flutter' out when glass is open, like cars when you roll down back windows only?

Might be linked to an insulation package or something. Makes me want to check my truck now.

Looks like this is another one of those things where some trucks had them but not all did. Like the canister purge valve thing we went round and round on with 4.9s. Most of the trucks appear to have CANP but not All the trucks that had that engine had them. *shrug* who knows.

i had two identical trucks at the body shop. and i mean identical. both were ordered the same way by the same person on the same day. 89 F250 XLT 351 auto trans reg cab 4X4 even same color, black with blue stripe outside and a blue gray cloth interior..
one came with a D44, one with a D50. both 8800 GVWR. one had a damper, the only other difference was the VIN, one number apart.
