Turbo on 351w question.

How hard would it be to hook a turbo from say a powerstroke onto a 351w, would it be cheap? I mean I'm talking about using a junkyard turbo here so I'm on a pretty tight budget if you didn't reach that conclusion already.
would it be a bolt up ordeal or what?
I'm going with 383 or 393 CI, also would turbo lag be an issue, I saw some guy put a powerstroke turbo on his 351 in his Bronco but he didn't detail the install or any issues he might have run into he did say lag wasn't really noticeable so... I'm also going to be running no more than plus gas premium is too expensive around here! so the PSI is going to be pretty low.

Just watch some Roadkill videos and you'll get an answer.

If you want to turbo a stroker V8 and want it to last, it will not be cheap.

Bolt up? . Where would you bolt it? You have to create the mounting, oiling, intake and exhaust.

Build your 393 into a quality engine and you'll be good.

The stock bottom end will make a lot of HP and stay together. Mine is at 700hp now and I'm looking for another 100hp over the winter.
You say "budget", but stroker motors and budget don't really go together. No matter what turbo you use,the hot/cold sides piping will have to be custom fabbed and fuel control will be another big issue. Not to say it isn't doable. I have a single on mine and fuel is controlled by a Holley HP.

You can take a look for more info here: Gen 1 66mm Single Build

As he said, nothing will be cheap except for a jy turbo. If you are willing to invest 100+ of your hours, and have the tools to do it, the rest can be cheap. And then the reality of fuel upgrades (injectors, pumps) and tuning come into play, which will cost quite a bit. There are such things as budget strokers, but ya misewell get forged pistons at the very least.

A 393 build it yourself after machine shop pay and parts is probably going to run you between 2 and 2500 bucks. A short block is between 2500 and 3500 bucks summit or ATK. Not sure what tight budget is. But add a junkyard turbo and rebuild kit for it, and support ( fuel pumps, injectors, and standalone computer that probably wond run an e4od) for 500 conservative low boost hp and you're getting close to 5 grand.

... I'm also going to be running no more than plus gas premium is too expensive around here! so the PSI is going to be pretty low. Not going to have much choice here, going to bet the least compression with a 393 is going to be mid 9s:1 add any boost worth while and you need premium
If your budget is that tight you may just want to invest in turboing stock 351s and going from there. Or go junkyard 5.3 swap with turbo, you would need a 4l80 trans, but at a u-pull you can get both for less than a 393 stroker. Repin the harness yourself (I've done it, not hard about 4 hours work). Set of valve springs and a Wally 450 pump. And you are looking at easy 500 hp.
Is it the right thing to do to your truck probably not, but it is the cheap way to make the power.

Just do the stroker now and when they take your license, join the Marines. When you get your license back in a few years you will have saved enough money to build a turbo.
