My 1972 F250
Proud owner of a 1972 F250. Always been a fan of this style Ford truck. Got mine from my FIL, been after him for it since he got it, if he ever decided to sell. Well, about 6 months that time came. 2 tone Scandia green and Wintergreen, green interior. 360 2bbl, C6 auto. Dana 60 rear. Has some rust holes in the roof, passenger side above the rain gutter, and has kinda split it between the roof panel and under framing. Might need to find a cab just for the roof section. If it were a chevy i could find a new one all day, but not so for a Ford. Plans include rebuilding the engine to 390 specs. I've already got a 390 crank from a Thunderbird, and 390 connecting rods. Might like to convert it to 4wd if I can find the parts reasonably. Would like to redo the interior. Not sure about leaving the patina on the paint or repainting. Also would like to find some wheels from I believe 1997-98 F250 factory wheels, aluminum with the holes, but no rivets. They look like Baja's but with smaller holes.
Briefly thought about dropping in a diesel. had a lead on a 7.3 IDI, but was told they aren't worth the time of day if you want big power. I've heard Powerstrokes are overly complicated (and expensive), and Cummins are becoming hard to find cheap. Think I'll stick with the FE.
Thanks for having me.

Mach428, might have to consider that. The wife is not real fond of 2/60 AC.
I have found a cab with a solid '69 roof at a local scrapyard. Mine has the common rustouts in the upper right, above the windshield. Anyway, if I were to go cut it off, to use as a replacement, do the A pillars and back of the cab have any internal structures to worry about, or is it just the outer metal structure? Just trying to plan ahead, when I actually cut the roof off of mine. I'd cut extra off the doner.

Welcome to the forum. I know what wheels you are talking about. I've been thinking about them for my 69 F-250. I believe they were used on F-250 and F-350 trucks from about 95 to 97. They are made by Alcoa if I remember right. It's hard to find good looking wheels for 8 lug trucks. Most newer after market wheels just don't match the truck IMO. As far as the cab goes, wouldn't it be easier to just swap the entire cab instead of cutting the roof off?

Some pictures of the rust I'm dealing with. Right front corner of the roof. Rest of the roof is solid. Is this section worth replacing the entire roof on, from the pillars, or maybe just sectioning in the corner. From what I can see, understructure looks intact, but I haven't pulled the headliner yet. Better just to remove the affected metal and piece in new sheetmetal. I'm just trying to decide whether or not its worth it to buy a whole roof from the wrecking yard. What say the collective mind?
Also, you can see in the pics there is a gap that has opened up on the underside of the rain gutter. Is that something that is just sealed with seam sealer, or was that welded together somehow?

4 bolts hold the cab down, then you have two on the front end second and 4 more where the two bolt together and maybe two more at the bottom of the fenders. you may be able to leave the radiator in the front end when you pull it off. the Point is that changing a cab is not that much trouble. IF you can find a great custom or sport cab with chrome drips and trim that would be a plus. just my Ford sense. lol

Mean, to me that roof needs to be replaced. If you can get a cab you would be way ahead, but you could get a cab that is rusted out on the bottom with a good roof? Would be cheap. Here on the east coast they rust from the bottom up. My parts truck was bad from the cowl down. My brother took the roof which was perfect.

Well, $120 poorer and a few busted knuckles later, I have a solid roof. Looks like my truck may gain cab lights, not sure how I feel about that yet. Might weld them closed. My goal is to replace just the roof panel and patch any of the support structure, and not actually touch the pillars. Won't know if that is feasible or not until I drill the spot welds on the truck's current roof. Fingers crossed.
And the actual corner in question.
