Weird sort of frequent stumbling on acceleration while driving, feels like ignition cutting out, mainly 2nd through 4th gear. This has only been happening while it rains. A LOT of work has gone into this truck as my post history would show; pertaining to this post, the ignition coil, connector and PCM are relatively new but they are both getting water drips on them. Seems like the only way to keep water off is to make some kind of shield for each component, has anyone done this with any degree of success?

 

I would first unlock the hood and put a hose to the windshield and see if that area is introducing the water into the bay. If not, close the hood and spray all of the hood area down and see if you can find the leaking area. I think a fix would be easier than building shields. Sandy

 

If I open the hood and watch the water roll I see it coming down on the corner of the hood where it meets the trim piece for the wipers (onto the PCM) and also at the wiper motor itself (onto the coil). The felt trim thing that does under the hood on that side is newish also and shouldn't be causing water to intrude ... It's been raining too much to be sure about the hose method but soon as it dries out I'll give it a try

 

The piece on my 91 is rubber not felt. I wouldn't think felt would be water proof . Regardless, you can get a roll of nice thick rubber with an adhesive backing from Home Depot and even cut some in smaller areas if need be.

 

The hood to cowl seal on my 94 and my previous 95 are rubber with a felt edge. Often on older pieces the felt is worn off.

I never noticed our trucks having a problem with water dripping onto the coil or ECU. I sure hope they don't.

Fits

 

Any tips on targeting the holes for your screws or just start from one side and try to stay even and smooth as you go? I have what is left of my seal to do this with though. Why didn't you go over further on the drivers side?

 

Oh, how long ago did you do it. I curious if its seen heat under the hood in August. The temperature ratings was the killer for my heater box project.
