Drivers side Battery Tray 86 F-250 IDI
I have been looking for the Drivers side Battery Tray for my 86 F-250 6.9. It seems they are NLA and or
made from unobtanium. I have searched in Google and various web sites.
I find plenty of them for the right side, I did replace it a while back.
My left side is still usable but pretty rusty and rusted through on one corner.
Were these only use 83 - 86? IDK. If so that narrows the gene pool down.
I have had this truck 4.5 yrs and didn`t know what it looked like, probably a
lot of you don`t either
I found this You Tube of a guy installing the IDI set up in his F-150.
At 8:30 into it shows the tray.
There is a 85 6.9 at PNP if it is still there, I raped a lot off it already, that could
be a possibility for one if it is in any kind of condition and better than mine.
If not any of you guys know of a vendor or have a good one???

I’ll have to look back and see if I have any photos of it, but when I did my fender and hood swap a few years back that’s what my battery tray looked like iirc. There was a galvanized piece of metal contoured to the fender that was riveted over the tray and I had to drill out the rivets to get the tray off.

I just replaced the driver's fender on my truck and the old fender had that riveted piece of metal too. It adds rigidity since the coolant overflow tank and washer tank mount there, but I found you can mount everything without the added support.
BTW Charlie, is your old battery tray salvageable? You might be able to bring it back to life with some Rustoleum.

My tray has that piece the Coolant bottle sits on, but is spot welded on, there is nothing riveted.
The tray is useable, just really rusted, and the front right corner has a quarter size hole and the lip
is gone for about an inch.
I would like to sand blast it and then POR it. I have lots of POR.
I was just wondering is any one knew of a new one available any where. Did a lot of searching and
nothing new is available.
The 85 I mentioned above in PNP is gone.....but an 83 6.9 Supercab came in on 1/8 , and starting
Friday thru Monday PNP is having 40% off. ...that is if you have the Tool Kit Rewards Card.
It may have a good or better Battery Tray???

Anyone fit an '87-'97 battery tray? They are making repops now. Mine has rusted and cracked in two, replacing it would be preferably to patching it up if the fancy new model will fit.

Dang, 4 years ago I posted this.
Since that time, I pulled probably 6 good one`s from PNP, and had them
Sand Blasted, and POR`d them.
Probably $12 from PNP, then the cost to Blast them, not sure what that cost was.
I had some tractor parts, Mercedes Suspension parts and other junk done at the
same time.
I don`t know why the e-bay one wouldn`t work. The one on my 86 doesn`t use the
brace arm, guess it could be removed. Other than that is looks the same as the
one I posted in the YT Video at 8:30 min into it.

Extremely few older vehicles in rust belt junkyards, and the ones there will mostly have the typical spots like battery trays rusted out as bad or worse than what you have. Just the nature of it. I changed my batteries and the new tray looks very close to what I have, I'll give it a try. I recall reading about the newer trucks not fitting group 31 as drop in. Maybe not long enough for the battery, but I can cut or bend the lip if needed. Also a height issue with stud tops but i think that's form the fancy new aerodynamic hood. Battery should stay at the same height from the rad support brace and hook into the fender.
