Hazard warning lights - only one working

I have a 1997 F150 XLT Supercab 4.6L automatic flareside. The other night I stopped to help a stranded motorist. I turned on my hazard warning lights. When I got out to help I noticed that only the right front amber bulb was flashing. I turned off the hazards and tried my front & rear right & left turn lights which worked. Since the right front amber light worked on the hazards the fuse should be good. What else could be wrong?

Check the electrical connector for the steering column harness. Make sure it is connected tightly together before you swap out the multi-function switch.
Sometimes they can get disconnected after years of road vibration and tilt steering pulling on the wiring.

Has to be internal to the MFS. There's no failure mode of the harness that will allow the turn signals to work normally but only one of those four lights to work in hazard mode (assumes reported observation is accurate).

Tell me more about this multi-function switch. Is there a wiring diagram showing how to access it?

It's your turn signal/dimmer/washers/wipers/hazard switch... Right there on the column.

What projectSHO89 is telling you is correct. The output of the MFS goes to the turn signals and the hazards since they're the same lamps that are used for both functions. That being said the fault has to lie within the switch because if the wiring harness was the issue then the turn signals would not work.

Does anybody have a Ford part number for this multi-function switch? I have come across several Motorcraft switches but there are a lot of part numbers. Not sure which one is right for me.

If you want to be sure you get the correct one, remove the steering column shroud and look for a number on the switch.

Here's an update about the problem I had with my hazard warning lights. I bought a new multi-function switch from Amazon and installed it Friday. Apparently the old one was the cause for my problem. All of my hazard warning lights work plus my windshield wiper fluid comes out as soon as I push the button. With my old unit it sometimes took several pushes to get it started. Now to see how long the new switch works.
