First gear is gone!

First gear is gone!
So the Ford dealer charged $126 to tell me my First gear is. "Gone". I need a new transmission. For $4265 they'll do the job. 8 hours labor and $2986 for a rebuilt plus 10% tax.
Questions:
1. Does the rebuilt include a new torque converter?
2. Is the warranty 3 years 36000 miles?
3. Does the Ford rebuilt warranty cover if trans was installed by some other garage?
4. I can buy genuine Ford trans for $2200 and free delivery. This is of course from online Ford dealer parts place.
5. If I go this way how do I deal with the core?
6. Has anyone dealt with Monster Transmission? They're running a sale and price is $1400. I have heard the name a lot but always secondhand.
7. Anyone else have any ideas? This is going to screw up Christmas for sure.
Thanks,
R.

Warranty is 36 months unlimited miles, you will be required to also have a new transmission cooler assembly on the invoice and provide proof of cooler lines and radiator cooler flushing. The core is a PITA of you didn't buy local. See if any dealer near you has a online parts store, lots of them do. The price you have is good at 2200. Also they do come with torque converter. If monster is doing 1400.00 with torque converter then that's a good price, I have heard they do good work but offer no warranty like Ford does.

Check out Rock Auto
Look at the remanufactured transmissions on Rock Auto. Good pricing and good warranty. Cores are easy peasy as long as you have the transmission shipped to the shop installing it. The shipper generally supplies the pallet/carton and all the paperwork and a checklist.
I'm going to be using a remanufactured transmission from Fraser Engines. Theirs has a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. I used them for the motor currently in my 2004. The have heen super easy to deal with. The core process was a piece of cake. They also allow anyone to install, even the end user (yourself) and they will still honor the warranty. Any warranty work must be done by a certified shop/mechanic. I think their price is $1700 and it includes a new torque converter as well as all the fluid. You definitely have to install a new cooler and flush the lines with any install .
I looked at Monster as well, but they come off a little too "gimicky" for me.

Look up fair install pricing
There's a chart online that lists fair install pricing for various transmission makes. I think for a Ford 4R75E it was like 5 or 6 hours. 8 hours seems a bit high to drop a tranny and reinstall. Of course, the last transmission I dropped and installed was an AMC T-150 and a Dana 30 transfer case in a 78 CJ5.
