20" wheels on Stock height suspension

As I am getting ready to install 20" wheels on my EX this week, I started to think about fitment issues. Thanks to some of the others that have posted here recently, this got me thinking more about this as I wait for 'fairer' weather this week. I know there should be no issues when I eventually get the ATS V/C springs. In the meantime, I was comparing both of my EXs and did see some difference in the stance. There aren't any lift blocks or leveling kits on the Grey EX, but it definitely sits level as compared to the Red Excursion. When I get home, I am going to check and see if the front springs were replaced by PO. With stock 16" wheels and tires on both, I see there is more clearance on the Grey EX front wheels than the Red. Can others with stock suspension and 20" wheels please post some pics for comparisons? Is it just me or do y'all also see the extra room in the front wheel well?

Red Excursion:
Driver Front: 21"
Driver Rear: 23"
Passenger Front: 20"
Passenger Rear: 22"

Grey Excursion:
Driver Front: 23"
Driver Rear: 23.5"
Passenger Front: 23"
Passenger Rear: 23.5"

The figment you need to worry about with rims is backspacing or offset and width, fender clearance has nothing to do with the 20” diameter because the tire diameter you select is what determines the over all diameter and fitment.

keep in mind as rim size goes up and sidewall height shrinks the ride quality goes down because the tires sidewall flex is an important part of your suspension when it comes to setting over ride quality.

Completely in agreement. I have 2" aluminium spacers that will go on. I wanted to go with wider tires(12" instead of 1.8"), but decided to stay with the standard size 275 that would have been on these wheels on a superduty truck.

Again, No contest. The side walls are now going to be ~0.8" less than before, but hopefully the 2.5" additional height of the tire will make up for that.

Me thinks you will have a pretty good rub on the rear fender well and possibly the edge of the bumper until you get to about 25” in the front. Possibly catch the front of the rear fender at full compression.

Well, if there is a 'significant' rub that I can't live with, I will go back to the 16's for now. The coffers are dry for 2018, and maybe even 2019 But then, I still have hope on winning the lottery some day

I have OEM SuperDuty 20 inch wheels on my 2000 Excursion. 275/65R20 tires (35 inch diameter.)

The only fitment issue I have is rubbing on the leaf spring at full lock due to the lack of spacers. Other than that, no rubbing.

@Pele what is your hub to fender measurment and can you post a pic of your Ex ?
fwiw, Prakash is trying to fit 34s

275/60-20 = 33”
275/65-20 = 34”
275/70-20 = 35”
275/75-20 = 36

34.5 inches is what the Michelins come out to. I rounded up.

I'll get a measurement from the hub to the fender when I get home.

I do see a much improved ride quality. But IMO, that is due to the new front shocks, and not due to the wheels. I do find my EX taking off a little faster from a full stop, than before I do not really want to increase the overall height, and like wheels filling the wells a little more than the stock 31s.
