Suddenly Died When Defroster Turned on
I have a 1997 F150 4wd 4.6 liter 5spd manual.
While idling I turned on the Defroster and it faultered and died. Attempts to restart only yield a clicking sound. I had horn, lights, and all accessories.
Battery was new. Had to tow.
Took starter off the truck & tested the starter at parts store. Starter bendix and solenoid checks out ok.
The door locks have been moving slowly, and make clicking noise as if activating on their own for several months. Also windshield wipers failed, replaced multi fxn switch, and tried a new motor but remain inoperable.
Any component common to all this?

Alternator is common to all.
May be a bad regulator or alternator is just tired & ready to fail.
Or could be a GEM issue. Water intrusion onto the GEM makes it wacky, will need water leak fixed and usually GEM replaced.
Door locks get old & tired. There is an almost free fix posted in the Super Duty forum. But the multiple clicks sounds like something else.
For the engine seize, I would check the AC compressor. AC compressor runs on every dial setting except "vent" on these trucks.
Remove the belt and see if the AC compressor will spin. You can also try to start it with the belt off and run it BRIEFLY without a belt. If the engine runs the AC compressor is probably the issue.
