Dakota Digital Install?

Tried test fitting my new VHX Digital gauge system today in my 1950 and I find that the original mounting studs in the dash are to short to install a nut. The studs only come flush with the back side of the mounting holes. For those of you that have installed these, what did you do?

Is there nothing in Dakota Digital instructions, they generally have all the details worked out. Can't really help you myself because my VHX gauges are for the 56

I have Dakota Digital in both my 56 F100 and in my 40 Ford...never had an issue with installation of either. That said, I did contact DD with questions on other issues and found them to be very responsive and helpful. Give them a call and I am sure that they can get your issue sorted.

On my 49 the DD gages were hitting on something I think the wiper or it’s mount? preventing it from seating all the way in I called them and got help, I ground one edge down or beveled on the plastic housing and it fit great

What I have found out is the mounting surface set back on the stock gauges and the Dakota are the same, 1 3/16" to mounting surface. The stock gauge mounting tabs are 1/16" thick and the studs protrude through about 3/16", just enough to get a nut started. The Dakota gauge mounting tabs are just over 1/8" thick, so that extra thickness pretty much takes up the stud protrusion that the stock gauge has. I'm thinking I might just remove the stock studs and install a longer 10/32" screw with a jam nut to hold it in place. What would we do with our extra time if we did not have to modify everything.
