1965 with 1964 drivetrain?

Hello everyone,

Just became a member and couldn't quite find what I was looking for in the forums so I figured I'd ask. I have a 1965 f100 2wd that I want to convert to convert to 4wd. I have a 1964 4wd parts truck and was wondering how much of an ordeal it would be to put the 64' axles underneath my 65'? Also would there be any steering modification that may cause issues?
Thank you all for your time.

The 64 and the 65 are one world apart. The '65 2wd is a twin I-beam , so it has no room for a front drive axle without extensive mods. If your looking for an easy swap, find a 65-79 4wd chassis. It's basically a drop on weekend project. I put a 79 under my 65.

I agree with EricJ , I have a 64 and put the chassis of a 75 under mine which gained me from power discs and power steering and I paid $900.00 for it, but I'm 2wd. 1964 was the last year of the straight axle the steering set up was horrible IMHO.

Look for a newer donor with greater benefit's, they are out there.

1965 F100 4WD has leaf spring front suspension, the cab is the same as 1961/64 (with the cab step) and use a similar engine mounting system as 1961/64.

1966 F100 4WD has coil spring front suspension, uses the same cab as 1965/66 F100/250 2WD .. Engine mounting system is completely different than 1961/65.

No F100 4WD's after 1976. 1975/79 F150 4WD is similar. Disc brakes with 4WD introduced in 1976.
