FOLLOW-UP: Ford Reman E4ODs
Hey all,
I'm posting this as a follow up to my other thread asking for opinions on remanufactured E4ODs from Ford. The feeling was generally positive, so I wanted to make an actual post outlining the good and the bad as an alternative to local shops and online retailers.
If I run into initial problems, I'll post them here. If anything comes up down the road, I'll try to remember to post.
The reason I chose to go with a Ford reman is I am about to move roughly 300 miles from my current home, making a local shops warranty almost useless. I had debated the online retailers, but have doubts of them coming through, and the possibility of their warranty only reimbursing for labor. Not actually being billed in the first place.
The Ford warranty is a 3 years/unlimited mile parts and labor coast to coast at any Ford dealer.
I'm sure someone will chime in that "you can get 10x's the trans from a local shop or online at ____", and I'm sure you're right. But warranty coverage is a huge deal to many and it certainly influenced my choice.
So here it is, a brand spankin refurb from Ford. Complete with a new MLPS, torque converter, a pan full of oil, the warranty above and a fresh spray of silver paint!!
The total for this would normally run $2,342.52 plus any local taxes, but I caught a "sale" at $1,957.33 + $1,000 refundable core and 10% (yes, that's TEN PERCENT sales tax in Wa.) for a grand total of $2,253.06 after returning the core.
That price alone is pretty reasonable for even the most stock ford feeling rebuilt E4OD.
It's late so I will be getting to this install first thing in the morning.
Any questions people may have, please post. I would love to be able to target my posts.

HOLY CRAP IS THAT THING HEAVY!!!
Got the trans up and everything buttoned up by about 5:30pm yesterday.
That sucker is a 2 man job even with a trans jack. I'm one sore dude today.
Changed out the VSS with an oreillys brand part. Was getting a 452 code along with the speedo not working.
Speed now works intermittently and I'm still getting harsh shift engagements at odd RPMs. Good news though is it's not stalling out.
I suspect the VSS from oreillys might not be of the highest quality.
Going to get a VSS from ford and slobber some dielectric grease on all electrical connections in that circuit and see if that solves it.

New VSS from Ford changed nothing. Followed VSS wires from sensor, all the way up to terminal block in firewall. Greased the pins, no change. All wired are in good shape. Leaves me with a failing PSOM.
Ebay speedo will be here wednesday. I will be back from out of town saturday night. We shall see then. I'll report back.

DE grease can't improve a connection, only prevent moisture intrusion & corrosion.
Too much can definitely impact connectivity. Don't slather.
The PSOM is probably the issue rather than speedo or VSS.
I'd have opened up the ECU for capacitor inspection/replacement before now too.
