Driveshaft hanger bearing question

So I am replacing the driveshaft hanger bearing. I can't find anything to show me which way goes towards the back. Does anyone know? Also does this new retainer replace the old one? Let me know which picture is the right one. Thanks.

Thanks. I've seen this diagram but I still can't tell which way it goes from the picture. Seems like rubber faces the rear, correct? What about the retainer?

So I installed the new center bearing on but the original locking ring (in the picture) will not stay snug on the shaft. I put the carrier on like picture #1. I was wondering if it is necessary to put that lock ring on with this new center bearing or was it used for an older design. I also have this spacer?? that came with the carrier and there wasn't one on originally ( I don't believe). I believe the center bearing is seated as far back as it can but am curious on if or how these press on tight. Thanks for the input.

I think the driveshaft needs to be able to move to-and-fro as the rear suspension articulates?

I understand that but this retaining ring that was on the old center bearing is not pressing into the driveshaft. Do I need that on the new center bearing?

Darn. I'd look at my truck for you, but I won't be able to access it until Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully someone posts up a definitive answer before then.
