V10 Fuel Pump Recommendations
Thinking I need a new fuel pump in my 01' V10 Excursion with 85K miles. I wont go into the why, more curious about what brand to go with. Have people had luck with a new pump only or is the full assembly recommended?
Motorcraft from Ford is pricey but would prefer to not deal with this again for a while. I have heard Bosch, Walbro, etc are good but don't want to save money at the expense of reliability.
Any advice appreciated!

I have heard good things about Walbro, but their pumps are generally universal type and do not include the new tank to assembly gasket. So you need to do more than pull the pump out and replace with the exact same model.
When I look through the list on Rockauto, I would go with the Delphi pump, or Bosch assembly. Are you ok with tearing apart the basket to replace the actual pump and strainer to save $80? $65 vs $141, plus shipping of course. If you have any doubts about the level sensor or anything like that, go with the assembly. If you would rather pull it out and swap, then go with the assembly. I have done it both ways, some of those baskets are a pain in the butt to get open and swap the pump, but I have no idea about the Excursion.
I have good luck with Rockauto so I would personally order through them. The dealership is never close, I can usually overnight it and still save money over the dealer.

Best 40 bucks ever spent. Received OEM Bosch with sender complete, works perfectly. Only replaced mine because the sender portion was toast.

That is a great deal!
Make sure you order the correct pump for your EX, California emissions spec rigs have a different assembly than the rest. My EX does not have any emission stickers under the hood and I ordered the standard assembly, then found that it was different than what I had on the failed pump, investigated and found that mine is a Cali spec truck, so I had to trade the assemble for the correct one, sidelined the EX for an additional few days. The Cali rigs have a tank pressure sensor mounted in the tank top plate, the standard emission rigs don't. If your EX has an O2 sensor AFTER the cat then its a Cali spec and needs the corresponding pump assembly.
I used the Motorcraft unit on mine.

I wish that I had an endless supply of those great wheels for the crew here, will share info on any that I do find though. But no shipping them, I'm a face to face kind of guy, so it will have to be road trip time!

If you had my bucks, we would both be broke! . We are just back from 10 days in Iceland, a very expensive place to live and visit, but well worth it for us!

This pic is while I was dropping the tank. The first thing to disconnect is the fuel pump harness wire as it comes down. In this pic it's almost 180* from where it is when it's plugged in. It basically goes up to the drivers side corner and is attached by a fastener to a rail off the sub-frame (follows the fuel lines basically).
Did you check voltage coming off the relays under the dash. There's 2 relays there but you should be able to find those wires running back to the tank.
