Heated Steering wheel not working

Hey guys, now that the weather is getting cold I noticed that my heated steering wheel is not working. I used it last winter with no issue.

The icon lights up in the Sync window but the wheel never warms up.

I checked and replaced fuse # 37. The old fuse looked fine but I replaced it with a new 20a fuse anyway.

Is there anything else I can check or look for before I take it in to the dealer?

What are your local ambient temperatures when testing your HSW? See the HSW section in the OM for info about warm ambient temperature operation.

The lowest I have tested it is about 35 outside so far this season.

This is what I found in the OM:

Note: In warm temperatures, the steering wheel quickly reaches its maximum temperature and the system reduces the current to the heating element. This could cause you to think that the system has stopped working but it has not. This is normal.

My steering wheel stays cold to the touch. I used it all last winter and it worked great.

Bummer... Sounds like you may need to make a service appointment, but be prepared for the “warm temperature” discussion.

Best of luck!

I figured I would have to take it in but based on what the OM states even in warm temps the wheel still heats. Am I missing something?

Last spring I hardly ever noticed my heated steering wheel, Because I park in a garage and it's always 40° in the garage.
Up in Yellowstone a few weeks ago camping and I noticed it really heated up when left out in cold over night.

Go to your climate screen and manually turn it on and see if it heats up.

My truck is parked outside and I have tried turning it on manually and from remote start many times.

Mine get noticeably warm (almost hot) even with outside temps only in the 50s F.

Mine seems to be hotter in some areas around the wheel than others.

I think yours needs to go to the dealer.

And, don’t forget this little operational gem from the OM:

”Note: For steering wheels with wood trim, the heating feature will not heat the wheel between the 10 and 2 o'clock positions.”

HTH,

Same problem. Mine worked fine last winter and this year on one cold morning I turned it on in the Synch screen and nothing. I brought it to dealer and they hooked it up to computer and told me that it was a steering wheel module that was not activating the heated wheel. They ordered the part and came to my job this morning to pick up my truck and replace the module. They then called me in the afternoon and told me that the shop manual showed the module in the area under the steering column but they went in and could not find the module on my truck. They checked another 2017 they had in the lot and couldn't find the module in that truck either. They put in a call to the Ford hotline and returned the truck to me until they get a response to fix at later date. With the other problems I have had on a new truck, it has put a sour taste in my mouth. I am going to google map the Kentucky truck plant to see if it happens to be next door to a bourbon distillery
