Desperate for help! Need advice on hitch

gosh im so stressed out I feel like I'm going to have stroke!!!! If anyone could please help me...

Been trying to get on the road to see my kids after 2 years now, got the 99 super duty, truck camper and tow dolly went to buy an extension just to find that my truck doesn't fit the 48" extension, I have a 2" .... I spent every penny i had on the tie downs that fit the stock hitch 2" so there is that, now I need to try and find a 2.5" hitch that will fit my 99 F250 .... Ive tried the google and forums with no avail.. If anyone knows what years the hitches interchange so I can find a 2.5" hitch or if there was a option in 99 for the 2.5", I called the wrecker yards and they are no help they all just say nope there all stock and would be 2" ... so I need more info to ask them, or if anyone knows what models or years had the 2.5" that would work on my 99.... Thank you in advance for the help,..

Danny

Would a 2.5 to 2 inch reducer fit, is that what you are asking? You can get those at most auto parts store.

my truck is 2" hitch, the 48" extension is a 2.5" I can't find a adapter that will go from my 2" hitch to the 2.5" extension..... I looked everywhere locally and google.. That's why i was wondering if anyone knew if the 99 super duty came with a 2.5" in any upgrade package or what years of hitches are interchangeable...

Would a Torklift receiver work? I know Torklift sells a few receiver hitches.

There was one listed on the link above, but it sure is spendy. compared to the others.

I'm not a truck camper guy, but in my opinion the Torklift SuperHitch and their Super Truss extension are just about the most robust and best designed equipment for the task available. Unfortunately they are not very budget friendly, but the above described scenario isn't something that you want to cobble together with mismatched and questionable parts. And I would absolutely NOT use an adapter between the 2" truck hitch and the 2.5" extension, that to me seems to be asking for trouble with the adapter looking like the weak link.

Again, I have admit to not being a truck camper guy, but how much does this 11' 3" Lance truck camper weigh? And how much payload is the '99 F-250 rated for? And how much tongue weight on the tow dolly with the Kia Rio loaded? And how much additional tongue weight would the hitch and or 2" to 2.5" adapter be seeing from a 48" extension?
I don't have any of those answers but my gut is telling me that the numbers add up to well beyond what a 20 year old 3/4 ton pickup would be comfortable with. I'm not trying to be the weight police here, heck my combo is a wee bit heavy too but this just sounds like a different truck might be needed. And maybe I'm wrong, but my gut is still telling me that I'm not.
This ongoing thread in the truck camper forum here seems to be along the same lines as the OP's desires and the consensus seems to be his truck would be inadequate to his desires. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...wing-help.html

As a former 2000 superduty owner with a truck camper - As mentioned above the best solution would be getting a Torklift Superhitch and their 48" extension. The extension will be rated for 750/7500 lbs if I remember correctly. You can find the hitch and extension on Craigslist from time to time for half the price (or less) of new. I understand money is tight.....

Easiest thing to do is change hitches with the Curt linked above and use the happijac bumper buttons for the rear tie down and you're on your way. Link - Happijac tie downs

I don't believe the 2.5" receiver started coming out on stock trucks until 2011 and I doubt those hitches would fit a 99.

I had a '99 Crew Cab PSD and installed a Curt 2.5" hitch on it. The good news is a tow dolly won't put much weight on your rear end. The bad news is you are likely already overloaded on your rear tires. I strongly suggest you take the truck and camper down to a local truck stop and weigh the front and rear axles, then compare those weights with the rating on your tires. Your rear tires especially should be filled to the maximum pressure on the sidewall.

I ended up having to get replacement 19.5" wheels/tires to safely carry a camper and pull a trailer.
