390 rebuild/cam selection

Hey there,
the time has come to rebuild the 390 in my 76 f100. It's the original engine with a lot of miles on it, it also sat for roughly 8 years so it has blow by, and leaks a copious amount of oil from pretty much everywhere. (despite this I've been daily driving it with no problems) It has a 650cfm edelbrock on top of a performer rpm intake, HEI style distributor, hooker headers and true dual exhaust. (going to be reusing all of these) Truck a 2wd short box, also has 4.10s and a posi. Its going to be my daily driver, so I don't want it to be too radical, and I want it to run on 87 octane. I plan on using better pistons to bump the compression a bit, and a better cam. Would like to keep the heads stock, as I'm on a budget. My engine builder suggested a lunati voodoo 268 cam. Anyone have any experience with one? Do you guys have any other cams you'd recommend? What kind of horsepower/torque numbers am i looking at? Id be happy if I was close to 300hp and 400ft lbs. Anything else in general you guys would advise/recommend is also greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jared

First off, confirm that is is a 390 and not a 360 by measuring the stroke. You wouldn't want to buy the wrong parts. There is no reliable external difference between a 390 and a 360.
Alternatively, you can leave that up to your machine shop. The crankshaft, rods and pistons are different and your machinest should be able to tell you what you actually have.
All of the above assumes that you are not the original owner with knowledge of the truck's provenance, VIN code, etc.

I’m not the original owner, but the VIN states it’s a 390, and I doubt anyone would switch one out for a 360 hahaha. I’ll let my engine builder confirm before ordering parts. Thanks for the input though!

Is that Lunati a split pattern cam? If you are interested in a Comp Cam 268H I have one that’s been sitting in my garage for the last few years. 33-224-3 These are fairly tried and true for the FE.

I bought the complete kit but only used the timing set and lifters out of it. So cam, springs, retainers, locks, valve stem seals are included. You can have everything for $120, shipping not included. PM me if you are interested.

I’m still not totally sure what cam I’m going to end up using, and would want new lifters and timing set. Thanks for your offer though!

Look into lobe separation angle shootout tests. This is one thing where you can get a small duration cam, have it sound a little more aggressive, and get better performance out of it.

Nothing wrong with a Comp 268

You can replace the lifters and timing set for $130 or less. The complete kit is at Summit for $349. So you could save $100 by taking the above deal.

I have a 390 I'm rebuilding I have a Lunati 10330700K - Lunati Voodoo Cam and Lifter Kits from summit
My machinist and I agree that it would work will in my truck (building to tow/haul)
It will also help with the mid-range bog down that these trucks have
