Speakers sound like Invaders Arcade
I have a 97 F-Super Duty with the stock radio(Not even a cassette deck!) After turning the volume up to where I can hear it at a deafening 2700 RPM cruise speed, it went silent. Now even when the truck is completely off, I get speaker feedback. When I turn the ignition to on, I either get heavier feedback, or digdug through the speakers. Radio doesn't play through at all, no matter what I do, but all the lights on it still come on. It is an old fleet truck and there is a megaphone in front of the radiator. Might be part of some strange alarm.
Any ideas will help. Yes, I have turned off and back on. Diagrams would help a bunch too.

Radio could be **** or bad grounds, start with the grounds...go from there. There are grounds behind the kickpanels, under hood, and at the frame. JVC makes a really nice, inexpensive deck. KD-X350BTS. About $70 from the usual suspects. NO CD, just FYI. I keep my CDs at home, copy to MP3 for the road. Any name brand speakers are better than the 25 year old crap still in there, use those quick connectors and look for those foam baffles to help resonance. 6.5s up front, 5x7/6x8 out back. I have old *** Polk DXs in mine I have had sitting around forever. Excellent sound and really cheap because they are 'old' to people.
Few hundred dollars and you will be set. It will sound like you are front row, center at the Sydney Opera House listening to Le Nozze Di Figaro compared to what is there now!
PS - the 7.3 is LOUD past about 2100rpm once uncorked in these trucks. They are just tin cans.

Dang. I haven't opened the exhaust yet, and it is louder with the windows closed than it is with my str8 L6 with them opened! If I need to replace my stereo, I am going aftermarket, I just want to confirm my problem first. I recently replaced my factory "Sparkomatic" dash speakers in my '86 burban. The dust on those things...
a P.S., P.S. 4.63 gears on tiny tires is heck on earth. Starting a thread on that soon.
