2008 Metal Rattle Noise at Idle

Been getting a metal rattling noise under my 08. First I thought I was an exhaust leak but it was too intermittent. Some days it wasn’t even there.

I did an oil oil change today and noticed the metal cover between the trans and engine is rattleing causing the noise. I made some space in there gently with a screwdriver so it won’t contact the trans anymore but it’s still rattles. Any advice
Im thinking of putting some jb [small amount] weld in there just so that cover doesn’t bounce around. But I don’t wanna make a mess.

I, too, originally though my rattle came from that exact spot a few months ago, after just buying my truck. My noise wasn’t at idle, though, but at higher rpms. Ended up being a broken exhaust stud.

Sknce your is at idle, I would check the catalytic converter covers first. They are usually the first ‘noise makers’ due to the heat cycles they see. I have used inconel safety wire to quiet them down, putting a few tight wraps on the ends.

I slid under there when it was making the noise and it’s definitely coming from that cover

It is just a service cover, so you can remove it and go for a drive to see if your problem is cured. If that cover is the cause, purchase a roll of thin gasket material and install it between the plate and the bellhousing.

Thanks. When I get under there you can see it rattleing away and making a metal on Metal noise. Grab it, noise gone

Sounds like a bad idle bearing

Remove it, make it flat, stick some weather seal on it, reinstall.
