Weatherguard Extra wide box to big for a short bed

What's y'alls opinion, the weatherguard extra wide box to big for the Short box? The 27in wide box would leave me roughly 4.5 feet of bed left. Coming from a 2011 f150 5.5 bed with a saddle box and a 36in side mount. Both were filled with work tools, I'd like to consolidate to one box. My other thought was to get a full tonneau cover and work out of totes. Anybody that uses their truck for work have some input? Thanks

The extra wide box allows more room under the box than would a deep box, so you can still haul a lot of lumber under there. Assuming you need the ~15 cu ft toolbox, I’d take a wide over a deep model. Of course it depends on what you want to put back there.

dont carry lumber. A Werner 22ft multi ladder stays in the bed along with a tote with rope and extension cord. Also wondering if the wide box would look goofy on the short bed.

NICE!!! I've had it in my mind all week that I was going to go with the extra wide. I go in tractor supply this afternoon thinking about buying, but then I saw it in person and was "wow that's a big freaking box". Ended up the black one on the shelf had some welds broken holding the bottom on and the bottom was bent some. Might check some other stores this weekend.

FYI—tractor supply has a 20% off sale on truck boxes every few months. Might want to ask them about that.

I thought about a short bed but I need the big box plus a rack and I’d have had like 18” of useable bed left....
Without the rack it would have been ok.
Depends on what else you haul....

Do you guys find it difficult to reach for items in the box (from the side), because of how tall the trucks are? I'm 5' 9" and cannot swing my arm over w/o a tool box.

I use a wide Weathergard on my 2019 F350 with Gooseneck. Have about 6" of room between GN and box. Went up and down a few sharp hills and it did not touch. I had the same box on my 2017 F150. Before the wide box, I had a standard box on my 2008 F250 with one side box. I can put as much in the wide Weathergard as I could in the other 2 boxes.

For organization on the bottom, I use used milk crates. Not the cheapy Walmart type but the real ones. I have 2 sliding tool trays and they just slide over the top of the milk crates. I put ratchet straps, bungee cords and soft ties in one, put tow straps, gloves and miscellaneous in one, and chains in another. Arrange them how you need them. They come in square or rectangular size. They leave room for long stuff such as crowbars, jacks, chain binders, hitches and so on. The bottom compartment is nearly full on my truck. I may carry 400-500 lbs of stuff. One rectangular crate is 3/4 full of chains alone. I put a block of wood under the box near that area because I carry so much weight. I have more stuff in my toolbox than most guys have in their garage.

My F150 had the side steps on the box. Was super handy to use the toolbox. It was rare had had to crawl in the bed for a tool. I really miss those and the F350 is much taller. Plan to install the AMP side steps this weekend. I looked underneath and the F150 frame and set up is totally different. I cant move those to the F350.
