Ok I spelled it that way to grab your attention......my 49 f-4..... I want to replace the U joints......anything special or can they be gotten at a local auto parts store?......

They are stock u-joints, 1350 series IIRC. Should be able to get them at any parts house.

I wouldn't say they are special. They didn't used to be anyway.

But today, I would be leery of the usual generic made from recycled beercan scheisse that seems to be the case for so many parts these days. Wheel bearings for example. Don't get me wrong, many other countries can and do make quality bearings. These same countries also sell complete trash bearings, for a price. I wouldn't trust em. Were it me, I'd buy NOS motorcraft U-joints or NORS spicer or whatever. They won't cost much more. Maybe even cheaper, and you know they are made of good stuff.

The u-joints in an F4 and F5 are a 1350 series joint. The Spicer part # is 5-178X. They are 3 5/8" across the bearing caps and the bearing cap diameter is 1 3/16".

B5TZ-4635-A .. U-Joint - 1350 series / Obsolete

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS in Nashville GA has 3 = 229-686-5101.

RPN PARTS in Erie PA has 4 = 888-864-9305.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 15 = 800-476-9653.

Thanks guys.....so far there good but since I redid the truck I want to put new ones on...
