Possible new truck: 74 highboy

Hey guys, haven't done much digging around on the 6th gen forum, my trucks are 7 and 8th gens. Today I found a 74 highboy with a 360 backed by a 4 speed. I know these trucks are indestructible!!! But what should I look out for if so go see it? I know these trucks like to rust the cab floor but do the corners usually go first like the 7-9th gens? Pics will be below, cab corners are great shape yet. Also the closed knuckle d44... I heard it isn't as good as later designs. Is that true? Also is there anyone that makes a FE pattern adapter for a zf5? My daily driver atm is my 88 f350. Plan to swap in the d60 to my 86 f250 and who knows maybe a zf5 swap into a dentside?

Thanks guys! Name: photo947.jpg

The closed knuckle is fine depending on what you are going to do.
Look at I believe Iron Chief for the swap with D60.
What is your final plan for truck?

Just a small note, that aluminum trim along the bottom can hide a lot of rust. I didn't notice but if the truck has grab handles on the outside then that lower corner is most likely rotted out.... ask me how I know

Rust areas to look for: cab corners (front and rear), floor pans, front cab mounts, rear fender wells, bed floor (especially under plastic drop in liners), behind bottom aluminum trim, and drip rails.

Pretty much leave it all stock and drive it. Maybe repaint or clear over the patina depending on the amount of rust. Wouldn't do a d60 swap, already am planning on one for my 86 f250 from my 88 f350.

Yep had a truck that had the grab handles removed not by me and nothing to cover the holes... the rust was bad. Appears the cab is solid, as is the entire truck from what the owner says. These days it's hard to find a complete dent/bull these days at all, much less one that isn't rusted.

Thanks guys!
Only bellhousing I'm aware to fit the FE is made by quicktime. They're pricey too, as are a lot of FE Parts. Summit & others sells them for about $700
