‘96 Explorer Power lock issue

Hello All,

its been a while while since I’ve posted on the site. I recently picked up a ‘96 XLT V6 AWD model from a close friend. Original owner, it’s in pretty clean condition. It is in need of some maintenance but starts and runs fine even after sitting in storage since 2013.

The power locks lock all doors but will not unlock from any button. Are there separate relays for lock and unlock on this model? I haven’t had time to really troubleshoot this yet but if anyone else has run across this some pointers would be nice so i can know where to start.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Yes, on the 1996 Explorer there should be three relays associated with the power locks. All three relays are in Aux Relay Box #4. The three relays are Driver's Door Lock relay, Door Lock Relay, and Door Unlock Relay.
