Anybody know this rim manufacturer?

Hi:

Just bought a 74 F100. It has these wheels on it with no center caps. I'm trying to identify the brand so I can order the caps. Between the bolt pattern there are 3 holes for where, I assume, the center caps would screw on. These are polished aluminum 15X8. Does anyone recognize these?

Thx,
Dave

Styled aluminum and steel wheels were introduced in 1977 for F100/150's & E100/150's. Bronco's got them in 1978.

These wheels have 3 small holes within the bolt circle where the anchors and screws that retain the plastic hubcaps (Ford called 'em ornaments) fit in.

Look adjacent to the valve stem for a stamped Ford ID code that identifies the wheels. Styled aluminum wheel was only available in 15" x 6."

Styled steel 'wagon' wheel was available in 15" x 6" & 15" x 8" (1977/79 only).

Be aware that Ford measured wheels across the inside flanges, not across the outer lips.

Thanks NumberDummy!

I wish I could post the original pic, but ,based on that page you provided, my wheels look exactly like the Type 9! I found this pic on ebay and these are my exact wheels! Thought they were 15X8, but, based on the way Ford measures them, they very well could be 15X6. Someone along the way, must have put these wheels on it.

Now, to find the caps!

These are Ford 7 1/2 in rims on my 78. I originally went looking for the OEM 6 1/2 rims but rarity and price of reproductions sent me elsewhere. Besides, I prefer a little more tire to fill the wheel well. I’ll be getting more tire when these need replacing. These are pretty easy to find since they were on 1980s-1990s Fords. I’m still looking for the “old” caps for these.

Nice! Yeah, I'm heading out to my local 'Pick & Save' yard and I'll pull caps from wheels out there, if I can find them. My understanding is any from 80-96 will fit. I also found them on Amazon for under $40 for the four. But, I can probably get them from the yard for $10-$15.

You guys have all been super helpful!

Kind of ironic that the older center caps from the '70s were black, and that the later '80s-'90s ones were a shiny chrome-like finish during an era of disappearing chrome and brightwork.

daveinva - To save a lot of time and frustration try car-part.com. That's how I narrowed down what yard to look in.

Be very careful if installing used anchors that retain the hubcaps (ornaments), which were nylon when used with aluminum wheels.

The anchors expand when the screws are installed, but over time, the anchors become loose in the wheels.

So...when you round a corner, the anchors could fly off...taking the hub caps and screws along with them. Not pleasant!

ASHLAND FORD in Ashland WI has 12 = 715-682-8400.

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS in Nashville GA has 12 = 229-686-5101.

COLONIAL FORD in Danbury CT has 72 = 203-748-3503.

Yea, the ones I got from the yard have these on them. Also why they came from the yard, $ 200.00 for 4 rims, caps, lugs, and virtually brand new tires.

Shop around folks!
