Tire size fitment

Hi all,

Got a 12 Exp EL limited with stock tires 275/55/R20. I am able to get a good deal on some winter tires that are LT275/65/R20.

Would that size fit my truck/wheels without any further modifications?

thanks

Those tires would fit your rims but they are the wrong size for your truck. 65s are not as wide as 55s.

That is incorrect. 65 and 55 are the aspect ratio. Those numbers relate to the height of the sidewall in relation to the width of the tire. 275 is the width.

275/55/20 is roughly 32" tall.
275/65/20 is roughly 34" tall.

Will that fit? I don't know. I know nothing about what tires will fit stock height Expeditions.

Thanks for the correct information. regarding the aspect ratio.

Seeing both tire diameters I can see that the 65 tire has a longer circumference. That would make the speedometer and odometer readings wrong.
The transmission output shaft speed sensor would send the wrong information to other components as well.
There may be other more important systems that will be affected.

I would not put a different size tire on my car unless I changed out any sensors/parts needed to compensate for the new tires.

Just my opinion,
Richard
