2009 F-250 with 13,800 miles
I just bought this 2009 truck and yes it only has 13,800 miles on it. It still smells like a new vehicle. An older gentleman bought it and only used it to plow his driveway, go to the dump, and odd jobs. When he passed away it was sold with only 8K on it in 2016 to the guy I bought it from. He only put another 5K on it.
At first thought this sounds great, but I know trucks need to be driven some and not just sit. I live in Maine and the calcium chloride they use on the roads now is extremely corrosive. It does have some rust underneath. Nothing too bad and none on the body, but a little. I plan to get it professionally sprayed.
My question is, what things do you think may be a problem with it from sitting so much?
The PO told me he had the brake pads stick a few times. The transfer case shifter was hard to move. WD-40 on the linkage helped, but it's still not always crisp.
Things you wouldn't think of, like the oil dipstick was very hard to remove. After much fiddling, it seemed like there was a little rust inside the top of the tube, and the O-ring on the handle was stuck to it. The PO said he had changed the oil a few times, but I can tell you it hadn't been recently.
My plan is to take it to a dealer and let them give it a once over. Check for any recalls that it may need, check all fluid levels, filters, change the oil just on principle, etc.
Is there anything else anyone can think they may do to it?
It's a very basic truck. 5.4 engine, AT, standard cab, 8' bed, 4x4. The only option it has is AC.
Thanks for any comments.

Common spots on the truck to have issues with rust are the wheel wells, the bed supports, and the inner sections of the doors. Changing over the fluids is a great basic start for a new owner. Getting it sprayed professionally is something you can get done. Or Spraying fluid film or bar and chain lube can get you through each winter.
a few other things to check would be the belts and hoses for wear and maybe service the hubs.

I thought I would follow up.
I brought the truck home with a 3 hour drive. I did have a problem. A front brake caliper stuck and I needed to stop and get that fixed.
That doesn't surprise me. I knew something like that could be a problem.
There is a little rust as you can see from the pictures. Worse on the wheels and exhaust.
It still drives like a new truck. I love it.

That's about right for a reputable shop, but some of these smaller shops might be able to do it for half or less, you just have to shop around. The spray is what's costing you the money. Good quality will last, some of these guy thin it down to make go further and miss areas to be covered.

matt, I paid mid teens with a Fisher 8' MM2 HD snowplow.
phillips91, I think it's winter corrosion making a piston stick in the caliper. I should have a OEM caliper in it now, with all parts on both sides lubed, it was very dry.
senix, I going to try Corrosion Free from Canada, spray it myself.
The day after I brought the truck home I found a set of OEM alloy wheels in very good shape for $200. I couldn't wait to get those steel wheels off.
It's amazing what a set of wheels and a little Armor All will do.
And I do need to wax it before winter.

I thought I'd show a few more pictures. I found a guy who bought a replacement grille for his 2010 F-250 and sold me his OEM grille.
I did do the Corrosion Free treatment and think I'm ready for winter now. Hmm, I see I missed a spot behind the left brake.
I like the Corrosion Free because it's clear and they say it's also a lubricant so I sprayed it everywhere.
