replacing the oil bath air cleaner

Would like to switch to a conventional air cleaner on my 1966 352, are there recommendations for a good replacement?

Bainbridge Island I see. Nice location.

In 1968 F100/250/350 they switched to a dry paper type element in a housing that is usually larger diameter but lower profile so if you found something like that it should swap right in. Otherwise, aftermarket is rife with choices. Mr Gasket and Edelbrock make housings that look decent and you can choose chrome or black and they typically come with the paper element included.

If you hog out the oil bath's top half, a complete 10" aftermarket paper-element type will fit between the original top and bottom.

If it's not rusted out why change it? There is a reason oil bath air cleaners are still used today on equipment. They have a very high filtration efficiency factor.

Pic: 1968/72 F100/350 360/390. 1969/72 F100 302 is similar, as is 1968/71 Galaxie/LTD 302/390.

The hot air tube (9A603 in pic) that attaches to the right exhaust manifold could be eliminated.

Well that is certainly worth considering, thanks, I am not in a hurry to make changes just yet, is there any downside to switching over to a conventional air cleaner?

Reference THIS THREAD beginning at post #15 for info on how to do it. The air cleaner he is referencing is a "Mr. Gasket 1487 Easy-Flow Air Cleaner." Just went through this because the mesh inside the oil bath was deteriorating and getting sucked up into the carb. See pic for my tear down... the inner baffle is crimped into the outer shell. Cut it with a cut off wheel at an angle until you're almost to the crimp, then pry it with a pry bar and it'll pop out. (see cut at top right)
