1952 F5 drag link question
I'm new to this site so be patient please. I have a 52 F5 that is in pretty good shape. I use it as a chip truck for my tree business. I recently brought it in to be inspected in my home state of NH. I was told the drag link end need to be replaced. I'm having a hard time finding a repair kit for the end or a entire new drag link. Does anyone know the difference between the smaller F1 - F3 links. Are the ends different? There seems to be plenty of those every where I look but no F4- F6. Please help!

Welcome TreeguyF5. I’d suggest a call to Chuck Mantiglia at Chuck’s Trucks in CT. He should have your repair kit. Stu

Welcome to the forum, Treeguy! I can tell you that the F4-6 drag link will be different and larger than the F1-3 unit. As Stu suggested, try checking with Chuck as he's a great resource for the larger trucks especially, and more reasonably priced than some other options, I'm sure. If he can't help you, you might try this link. The part number for your drag link assembly is 01T 3304-C, (according to the Ford parts catalog it fits 48-52 F4-6 only) and there appears to be one at Collector's Auto Supply. https://www.rearcounter.com/01T-3304-C-parts974512.html

Might also suggest that before buying the rebuild kits for both ends of your drag link, you might check your pitman arm for wear on the ball end. New kits won’t yield much improvement if you have a bad pitman arm. Stu
Edit - correct Ray, I should have included mention of the steering arm ball. Flat spots on either will yield the same problem. Stu

Welcome to FTE. How does the inspector know the drag link needs replacement? There is a possibility all it needs is an adjustment. Pull the slotted screw in ends out and remove the assembly from the truck. Pay attention to the relationship of the parts. Lay them out in order Pay attention to the ***** on both ends, as Stu said. A broken spring, quite common, will cause a lot of slop in the assembly.
