Exclamation 2005 F-250 Powerstroke 6.0 Rocker Arm Offset From Bridge?

Hi All,

Looking for some feedback on this odd issue. 05 F-250 6.0, 136k miles - serviced at the Ford dealer its entire life, never turned, rarely (1-2 times a year) tows, and is driven very gently. Truck was just in to have injectors replaced at the Ford dealer and during the replacement they noticed that the #8 injector was rubbing on the rocker arm when they removed it. They looked at the rocker and noticed it was sitting more towards the edge of the bridge rather than in the center of it. As a result, they figured it was bent and decided to replace it. After replacing it however it is still sitting at the edge, leading them to believe that a valve seat is bent causing it to misalign (which isn't making sense to me) - or that this was a manufacturing defect that has been this way it's entire life. In the photos look at the right most (top) and you can see it sitting at the edge of the bridge. What is strange to me is the wear is in a single spot - it doesn't look like its "walked" itself over there over time, but rather, that its possible its been that way its entire life.

Has anyone seen this before? Dealer states they've never seen one like this before. I'm not convinced its the valve seat and will need a full valve job. The dealer did have the motor out of the truck at 115k (it now has 136k) for a major overhaul (headstuds, heatgaskets, bedplates gaskets, oil cooler, oil pump, etc) so wondering if something happened then?

Perplexed and not sure where to go from here. I've asked the dealer to get a Ford rep involved and see if they can provide any insight on this one.

Hoping the collective brainpower here has some ideas or has seen this before.

Thank you!

If you loosen but not remove the rocker bolt and loosen the stud nut, are you able to move the rocker arm into a better position?

Unsure, didn't ask the technician unfortunately. I certainly can tomorrow.

Confirmed they can not adjust the rocker arm in to a better position. They're now thinking it is a factory defect when the head was manufactured. Any other thoughts/input?

When I did my rockers as an assembly what I learned was there was a lot of slop in the holes for bolting the rocker cradle. Meaning, I could move either end of the rocker cradle an easy half inch in any direction.

this presents a problem for the unweary who goes ahead and bolts the rocker cradle down before doing any analisys.

with out any rockers or rods installed I bolted the cradle down and snugged all the bolts so the cradle would still move.

then I installed the rods and rockers.

ad expected, the rocker cradle centered to the correct position

thrn I tourque down the cradle

then I followed the rocker arm torque procedure.

if you torque the cradle down first, it will be out of alignment.

Good point. If so, it came from the factory like this as I don't believe the rocker cradle would have ever been removed/replaced in previous maintenance. I would think however that more than 1 individual one would be off though? If I move the entire cradle, to line #8 up - the rest will undoubtedly be off as well.
