Will this SD be good for towing my camper?
Hello -
I'm looking to upgrade to a F250 to pull my 33' FreedomExpress 287BHDS with a GVW of 7,600 lbs.
I really like this one SD however I'm finding it hard to find one with the camper package. This one has the snow plow package which I hear upgrades the front springs but not the rear like the camper package does.
I took it for a test drive and really liked it so i'm hoping to get some opinions as to if this will work for my family's needs.
It has a payload of 3,158 lbs, 5,600lb GAWR Front and 6,340 GAWR rear axel ratings.

You can find the Ford Trailer Towing Guide for any recent year here:
https://www.fleet.ford.com/towing-guides/
Looking at the guide for the 2018, this truck has a maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 19,500 lbs and a maximum Gross Vehicle Weight for a trailer of 12,500 lbs. So you should be fine.

The camper package adds +1 to the front springs and a rear sway bar. It also limits you to 18" wheels. At least it did on my 2017, but it may be possible to work around that with other options.
I really like my rear sway bar but if you can't get it on the truck you want you can get the aftermarket Hellwig rear sway bar that is a bit more beefy than the OEM one.
You may want to look at a truck with the camera package. It can be handy for towing and allows you to add the camera on the back of the trailer as well as TPMS sensors in the trailer.
As stated above, that truck will tow your trailer just fine.

Got basically the same truck and about the same camper, just a different brand. The set up is great but I still recommend a good sway control hitch. I can pull interstate speeds and it is rock solid; thirsty but a real nice tow. I will even let the wife tow with it. The last time I let her give me a break I looked over and she was at 70mph . Just make sure you have a good set of tires on the trailer.

I got a deal I could not pass up on the 3:73 and I have learn to really like the truck. With anything up to 10k the truck will do a good job. Unloaded and staying just under 70 mph I have got close to 17 mpgs on the hwy, short runs aren`t good at all. Towing a rv I`m not worried about gas mileage. The truck will pull that trailer easily pass the speed one should be towing. The blue ox should do you a good job since you already have it. If you are like most we find it hard to get much over 10 trips a year in. With the weight I am towing the gearing works and think it would be good up to somewhere around the 10-11k area anything more I would look for the 4:30.

Thanks everyone for the advice! As stated earlier I couldn't find any 4.30s in my area. I test drove the 3.73 however and it felt adequate. I had my camper weighed before a long weekend trip and it only came to 6,900 lbs so I think I will be fine with the current configuration. The camper is brand new so we don't plan to upgrade in the near future at all.
I feel like I got a good deal on the truck so I signed for it! Thanks again - here's hoping for a smoother towing experience!
