Will a 370 Flywheel work on a 1996 460?

Was chatting with my buddy about the POS E4OD in my 1996 F250. Would love to put a ZF behind it but they want big money for a good one. So we thought what could we piece together. One piece needed is the flywheel and he thought since the 1996 460 was externally balanced and the 1980's 370 was externally balanced it might work. What are your guys thoughts?

I’m a little confused what you are doing. You have an E4OD that is supposedly junk although you haven’t said why or what trouble shooting you have done so you want to replace it with a ZF but they are too expensive. Then you ask if the flywheel from a 370 would work on a 460. Is the balance and tooth count the same for both engines? RockAuto has a brand new Luk brand flywheel for $100 but why would that matter if you aren’t purchasing the transmission?

I am just exploring my options. MY E4OD is not shifting correctly(Shifts from 1st to 4th gear). I have posted that on here several times and have tried several of the repairs offered by the members. ie changed the MLPS and the Speed sensor on the rear axle. I have not changed the PCM, but will probably do that before completely diving into the 5 speed conversion idea. I am cheap and would like to find a standard transmission setup. Will probably try to find an entire junk truck to use as parts if the PCM does not fix my problem. I hope that better explains what I am doing.

Diesel Brad, you are correct! After some more research it looks like the newer 460 flywheels are balance differently than the old 370. My buddy had a 370 and thought it might work. Thanks for the response.
