no sway bar on 92 f150? chained engine mounts?
recenrly bought a 92 f150 and although it was a great deal and definatly a good buy that i dont regret, im finding things as i go through it that indicate neglect.
ok, stupid question time, do these come with sway bars stock? it doesnt have sway bars front or back, no mounts or anything. neither does my other truck from thr same generation. i guess i never thought about it or looked for them / noticed they were missing, all the same seems a bit strange they wouldnt come with sway bars.
also, it appears the engine was removed and they had some problem with the engine mounts. there are currently short chains welded ro the frame on one side, then wrapped around the engine mount and bolted to the frame on the other side. i did find the old engine mounts in the bed as well as the bolts. they look fine, im not sure why they didnt use them. im guessing this would be a fairly big pain to get them back in there so im considering leaving it as is.

no, didnt notice them in the bed when i bought it, they were mixed in with a bunch of junk. ill try and take a pic whenni can get under there, i mean it seems pretty secure? but i dont think the motor mounts are intact. like i said its not clear what happened, mabey they were intending to put the ones in the bed in but never got around to it.

Do you have the 4.9L?
If so, replacing motor mounts isn't too bad. There are three bolts holding the mount to the block and one bolt holding mount to the perch. Jack the motor up after unbolting the mount from the perch, then remove the mount from the block. Do one side at a time.
The chains might be there to prevent the mounts from breaking. I broke the passenger side mount on my old '86 4.9L and my '95 had a broken driver's side mount.
My '95 didn't have front or rear sway bars, but I added them using parts from the junkyard. I think I have about $150 in them, including new polyurethane bushings. The back swaybar is easy to add, just get the endlinks and the brackets holding it to the axle. The front is more of a pain because you have to replace the spring perches with ones from a truck that had a sway bar... which means you have to remove the spring. But the sway bars are a GREAT upgrade. It's unbelievable how much better the truck handles with them.

yes its the 4.9l, hmmm mabey i should have ordered some motor mounts. well, i will unbolt the chain bolts and see if the engine moves with a jack under it. and mabey compare the mounts i found in the bed with some pictures online.
yeah ive been watching some videos about the truck in general and came across one where the guy upgraded his truck with a sway bar out of a junkyard bronco. next time im at the junkyard ill keep an eye out.
thanks for the info
