Brand new f250 no crank 405 miles

Just picked up my dads new truck. 2017 f250 king ranch 6.7 diesel. Flew to the dealership to get the truck. Once we found the truck the battery was completely dead. Dealership jumped it and I drove it home. Got to the house shut it off went inside to grab my dad and went to start it again. All lights come on, radio, a/c etc. Truck wont crank. Just get a flashing green light on the start stop button. Grabbed the jumper cables and it fired right up. Drove around for a while showing him the features and such. Got back to shut it off and tried to restart. Same as before, no crank. Tried jumping it again and now wont crank while being jumped. Checked battery voltage with each battery isolated. Drivers battery 13.23 volts passenger 13.17 volts. I'm stumped. Having it towed to the dealer tomorrow. Very disappointing.

The batteries are toast. They should have replaced them before you drove it off the lot. It was sitting there at least a year.

It's a left over 2017, this is why it's called lot rot. The truck is 3 model years old. The batteries are toast for sure. Will it start from the fob? They sometimes will start with the remote start as it bypasses a few modules.

Exclamation

Check the battery voltage with the engine off (not charging), and again while trying to start the engine.

Also check the certification label on the driver B pillar to find the build date (mm/yy).

Best of luck!

The batteries tested out with a good voltage. Checked this morning again. Passenger 12.92 driver 12.97. Truck still wont start. My jumper cables are home made #2 awg telco flex cables. Some of the best wire you can buy. Jumps all of our medium and heavy duty work trucks without waiting to charge up. Jumps a Cummins isx with completely dead batteries no problem. Tried the remote start. Get a flashing red light on the key fob.

Have your local dealer pick it up. If thats not an option pull the batteries and take them to AutoZone or what ever pats store you have that can be teated with a load. Odds are its still the batteries...imo. Good luck!

Sounds like you are rewdibg the surface charge in tge batteries. Try to start it and check the voltage again. I bet it will be less then 12 probably close to 11.

Probably have dead cells in them.

Like others have said, call the dealer.

Sitting that long make sure all seals are still dry and not weeping or leaking (at least the ones you can see). As pointed out above there is a reason it is called "lot rot"..

Sounds like dead batteries. Truck sat on the lot too long.

I'd also agree with a battery failure. It likely has bad cells and that's why the jump can't start it. It also explains why the batteries weren't charged after a 400 mile drive home. Voltage reading alone is deceptive. My 2002 Kubota L4310 had the original battery in it up to this summer. Then it suddenly wouldn't start and was hard to jump. Battery voltage was 12.8v but it wouldn't start. New battery...no problem.

Have a local dealer coming to pick up the truck. Lot rot or not, he bought the truck and added the 8 year 150,000 mile warranty so hes covered it anything happens.

Reason the both of us went with 2017 trucks is 2018 king ranch they changed the seat color and its god awfully ugly. Hes buying another 2017 king ranch but black exterior next week for his wife.

It'll get taken care of and be fine. Congrats on all the King Ranches! Great trucks.

ESP does not cover everything. Wear items are not covered beyond the bumper to bumper (3/36k). Things like batteries, brake pads, rotors, seals, gaskets, water leaks are not covered beyond that period.

Any possibility the key fob batteries may also be weak, considering the no-crank-with-jumper cables-attached issue?
