I just bought one up in northern Alberta with 180 000 km (111000 miles roughly) dually, xlt , factory turbo, 93 in immaculate condition with 2 very minor rust spot behind the door. I paid 9 grand Canadian so about 6800 American and I feel like I stole it from the guy. Then again with how much salt we have on our roads for more than halfthe year finding a 25 yo vehicle with next to no rust is almost unheard of.

At the end of the day it's all a matter of personal opinion. If you like the truck and yout think it's a good deal I say go for it. definetly sounds like it's in the ballpark as far as pricing. maybe make an offer at 6k. Worst that will happen is they say no.
For me personally I know if I didn't jump on the one I bought and it sold I would have regretted it I've been looking for a truck like this in this condition up here for a long time.

Heck ya, dollar for dollar you'll get way more for your money. Plus they are the coolest looking trucks on the road haha. I've gotten pretty good at wrenching on my 02 but even they are way more complicated than an idi. I wouldn't even know where to start on a brand new truck to fix one.

This really depends on you. Most likely if it was an Emergency Services Vehicle, it was very well maintained. Police Vehicles get rode hard and put away wet, but they are different applications. Is it worth the money? Maybe, it really depends on the accuracy of the millage. At 68k, she is barely broken in mechanically speaking, so you should not have any problems there. If it was well maintained and has good seals, could go 100k miles or more before any issues arise. A 1992 has other blessings as well, such as a 4 speed automatic instead of a 3 speed, so your millage will be slightly better, and freeway speeds easier. If you want a truck you can depend on, and you want a truck that can fight through rain, snow, and all forms of hell. IDI Diesels are about as good as it gets in the stock form. Other trucks have to add a lot of parts to match the reliability that the IDI will provide. Depends on you, and if your budget says the money lines up right. Would I spend that much? No, they are relatively cheap up here, I bought mine with 160k Miles on it for $1,750. But the market is perhaps different here. Again, what is the truck worth to you? If it is worth 8k for a good running truck to last you 10 years, then yes for you it would be worth it.
