Average 5.4 life expectancy in a F250
I am looking at a 2003 F250 with the 5.4. I come from the diesel world for the last 12 years. I am just tired of the cost and added maintenance. The truck has 227,000 miles on it. Truck look very nice and appear to be well taken care of. My wife’s 98 Expedition with the 5.4 is still going at 228,000 miles however it’s getting a little noisy. My dad has had 2 v-10’s and I would buy one with the high mileage no problem he has had great success with the v-10.
So my question is at what point mileage wise would you guys not buy a 5.4? I am already a little scared of the mileage with either engine compared to my diesel but kinda look forward to a $30 oil change

Price is $8000, super clean crew cab king ranch. Just worried about the power. I know it will pull stuff. Just been used to the low engine torque of a diesel for a long time.

There was a guy in the 1968-2013 Full Size Van section that had a fleet of vans used for airport shuttle service, running 24/7.
He had 2-3 fords still running with more than a million miles on the original engines and transmissions.
He had 4.6’s and 5.4’s and a few chevy’s. He said the chevys lasted half as long as the Fords before engines/trans would die.
And he said the 5.4’s engines and transmissions always lasted longer than the 4.6. Everyone talking on the thread agreed that the 4.6 was probably working a little too hard for the weight.
