building one would be cool if fabricating was a hobby for you but even if it was I think you would agree that for the work that goes into them they are priced right. Expensive but priced right.
since you are going to buy new, as Magnus posted be sure to check out the Aluminess stuff.
i have Trailready bumper and they are awesome but if I did it again I think I would get aluminum ones.
Fwiw, The Trailready ones are built to actually hit stuff, they are the official supplier to the FBI, DEA, and other .gov agencies that require “entry tools” Yes, they build them to smash down gates and barricades.

I looked hard at building mine. I have the ability and the tools.
but all the hours....lol. I ended up initially ordering HNC bumpers out of Vancouver, WA.
They were willing to sell me the rear uncoated and I was going to fab the carrier onto it then powder coat afterwards.
I was halfway thru the process when I realized when I towed my enclosed or travel trailer that I wouldn't be able to swing out the tire to open the rear of my Excursion without it hitting my Jack or propane tanks.
I moved forward with the order with them powder coating then and I deflated my 35" tire and crushed it flat then put the core in. Installed it in the stock location then pulled the core out.
Works great. Just something more to consider. The way the aluminum one works it would probably clear though.
