What would you do from here?

So I’ve got this ‘01 450 with the 7.3. In the past 2 months I’ve had a different problem nearly every other day. It started off with sucking a little water up out of the tank. All was fine until the intercooler hose blew off. Then the fuel line linked on top of the tank. After that the IDM threw up a code of #1 and #4 high to low side open.

after I got that handled everything was good for about 2 days, then I started noticing the SES light coming on once in a while, then more frequently. Then on almost all the time, ford said it was HPOP. So I had one put on, then it started dumping gallons of oil a day through the motor, that was the injector o-rings. After that the IPR/icp codes keep coming back. So I replaced both of them with motor craft replacements. That made no difference at all, so I bought a scangauge 2,

at 30% throttle my IPR hold at about 22 and the icp holds at around 2000psi. Oil temps at around 200-208

at 40% throttle for one minute off idle, IPR pegs at 65 and icp holds at about 1700. Higher the throttle, the lower the icp reading. the oil is clean, fuel bowl is clear with a light green tint to it and there is no oil floating in the antifreeze.

now recently it has started having a no start when warm issue and puffing blue smoke when it does start. Turning over icp pressure when warm is about 340 and IPR starts at 14.7 and ends up at 65

My real question is, what would you do now?

heh, I wish I could. I can work on a gasser. I’ve had this truck for 3 years and up until now all I’ve had to do is change oil. Hell, it’s only got 137k on it

Ask a mod to move this thread to the 7.3 section of the forum.

Some really good folks "down there" who know this engine better than I ever will. And they don't come "up here" very often.

Good to hear you can pull data, that is one of the first things you will be asked for.

Well the Motor will go 500K+ but you still gotta maintain the short life stuff attached to it. O-rings, Hoses, harnesses, Etc. do not last forever. and 140k is around when they start to fail.

yeah, I done the o-rings 3 weeks ago. I had to put a icp pigtail on it too about that time

Start surfing thru the Tech Files, but I would start eyeballing a Bad ICP sender first and The IPR second. Do NOT replace with aftermarket units for these 2 items, Motorcraft or nothing, or sadness will ensue.... also check the Tin Nut holding the IPR together. If it's loose, your symptoms will follow. the reason they mention Logging Data is if it turns out to be something Deeper, People here will ask you for that Data....Welcome to the Machine......

That was just for the injectors,, Right? Well, that's probably 20 out of the 100 that are in these engines.... When you get around to Oil leaks, we'll address that.

yeah, the only thing I replaced was on the injectors. While I had the valve covers off I checked the plugs inside and the oil rail plugs outside with it running. No problems there.

do you think I should just go get an ICP sender and try it out, or is there some other way I could tell if it was bad? The pigtail plug is dry was can be and the Key on engine off voltage is around 1/4 volt and psi according to scangauge (cold) is about 540 and hot is about 300-340

I'm at work, so I don't have the numbers in front of me....Some one should chime in soon, but my crappy memory seems to lock on 500 idle hot or cold and IPR duty cycle shouldn't go beyond 45...but I may be wrong.

While you're waiting for definitive answers, Use the search function and search " Torque Pro, ICP, IPR etc. You might stumble on the info u need.....
