Flatthead City Engines

Has anybody here had dealings with Flatthead City? I am supposed to be having a stock engine built and after looking back I paid the deposit on 6/7/17 and still have no engine. I was told it would be 6 months and that's cool, but a year. I'am not going to list all the excuses from his playbook but I found out today his mother died, this makes twice in 2 months, that got to be tough.

My machine shop in Lincoln NE got mine finished in 2 weeks. I did the disassembly and much of the reassembly but they sourced the parts and machined everything...block, head, crank, rods etc to match the new replacement parts . Everything was cleaned and looked like new when I got it all back. They also installed the new cam bearings and installed the valve train into the block and set the valve clearances.

When I had the 8ba built for my '39 p/u I did all the disassembly and supplied the parts. It took longer than expected but then I told the guy I wasn't in a hurry and he had some medical issues and he was the only flathead guy in what is basically a one man shop. He assembled the short block and set the valves. It was worth the wait.

I agree, having a mother die twice has got to be tough on an engine builder.

Well I finally got tired of all the excuses from this company, Flat Head City. Called my credit card company to see if they could help. Today I got my Visa statement with a full credit and $1,000.00 in interest. It's been about 16 months now on a 6 month job. I dont know what the deal was but glad to have my 6 grand back. Thank you US Bank.

Good to hear you got your money back but the big question did you get motor/block & parts back or do you need to come up with new ones?

Somebody experienced in the flatheads should build them on an exchange basis.

Did Flathead City ever give you an explanation? Holding your cash for over a year is crazy.

There was several excuses. After the 2nd time he said his mother died is when I had enough. I started being persistent with e-mails. Once I complained to the BBB he came unglued and told me not to ever call him again or he would sell my MF engine and I would never see it. He even made a comment that he wished he was standing in front of me then. The first time he said she had passed he said to call him next week, heck I waited 3 weeks before calling out of respect. Then a month or so later he said it again, then tried to say her sister died 2 months prior. Just one excuse after another. My engine was a plain Jane stock and I think it kept getting pushed back because of high dollar ones? All I know is my visa company US Bank has refunded all my money plus $987.00 in interest.

EBay too, is extremely hazardous to both buyers and sellers and their families, there really needs to be an investigation. Put up items up for bid and it's a cinch you're likely to end up in the hospital or your parents die. Really tragic.

I found this guy on the internet, nice web page. Looks to be big business, but I guess it could be window dressing.

Glad you got your cash back but waiting that long for no service is B.S. Thanks for the warning about this business. Places that offer parts or services for these old vehicles are getting harder to find and it is good to know who to stay away from.
