Synthetic, Blend or Dino oil? Pro's? Con's?

I have used Dino Motorcraft 10w30 for as long as I can remember in Diesel Motors.

I was told by Ford the Dino oil has special additives just for the diesel motor.

Pro's Con's?

Comments?

I hear ppl buy synthetic which cost more, but then change it out often.

Anyone with high miles that ran synthetic the whole time?

It would be interesting to see the insides of a motor with dino the whole time and synthetic the whole time. It would also be interesting to see the repair stats.

Motor oils have specific ratings called API. The current diesel is CK and has additives designed for diesel engines. I think the current gasoline motor is SN (not positive) and has additives specific to gasoline engines. Some oils are certified for use in both gasoline and diesel engines and will have both ratings on the oil container. You can read more about it at this link

I love synthetic oil. My truck tells me when to change it. Somewhere around 5,000 miles. I get better fuel millage with synthetic.I run it in all 4 of my fords. Oil is a contentiousness subject on the web so it boils down to your wallet. Can you afford a $200 hit to change the oil.

I've run dino almost the whole time I've owned mine. Synthetic has been on a ridiculous sale a few times so I tried it. I didn't notice much difference as it doesn't get cold enough here to take full advantage of the 5W for cold starts.

Since my truck is very abusive to the oil I change it every 5K regardless so I don't gain any benefit with OCI other than a lighter wallet.

I wonder if there is real data to substantiate the use one way or another.
Otherwise, it's all opinions..

Some good info here -> Per dealership don't use synthetic oil in 6.7L?? - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

I have the blend in my truck. Dealer made a mistake and itg was 2 late to change it. dealer said they would dump the oil but i don't like to waste anything let alone 13 quarts of oil. my findings oil temps seem to be higher than the good stuff. 240 degrees also I am towing my 5th wheel and have lost .7 per gallon MPG. I have used over 400 gallons so far on my trip. So far I have lost about 280 miles worth of fuel. This all depends on your finances. i am not rich but do ok so Synthetic for me no more mistakes at the dealer.

Whatever oil meets your engines specs. Thers been a few independent tests showing little different between name brand oils and generics of the same ratings. Wal-mart brand dino oil was considered the best value at the time, maybe 2-3 years ago when I was reading the reports. The oil industry is pretty well regulated.

If you have a diesel you should be doing oil analysis to determine oil change intervals, not going by miles. I've read many reports of guys are getting 7K+ miles on a oil change going off analysis reports. If it's not dirty and still providing adequate protection, why change it?
