Today I renewed my man card

So coming home from work got a CEL. Car ran like crap. The old p0354. Looked it up and bad coil pack. Above p0354 said something with 10 in it so went to autozone and bought 8 coil packs and 8 sparks plugs. I have the v10.

So anyway replaced #10 and low and behold ...nothing changed.

So then figured out the p0354 was #4. Crap.

So used my trusty 7mm socket to remove the bolt holding on the coil. And stripped it. Damn. Worked perfect on 10. So pounded a 1/4 on and got it loose. Replaced the plug and coil and voila. Problem solved.

It it has been 9 years and 135,000 miles since plugs were replace and the coils were original. So I’ll get to the rest in a couple weeks. But for now I’m back on the road.

I wonder if I will get back above 10mpg?Have been averaging 7-9 lately

How the heck do you get to #5?

I am sure somebody who has tried the Autozone coils will chime in with their experience but their reputation for longetiviety is questionable, Cool you got it fixed and they are certainly better then a non functioning one.
fwiw, motorcraft coil packs seem to be the preferred units.

I do the warranty for life. They go bad and I swap them out. Use lots of autozone products. And the quality is inconsistent. Somethings last forever and some are bad out of the box. Since I only bought 8 coils for #5 I will use to OEM

buy denso, it's OEM for 1/2 cost with a denso sticker slapped on top of the MC part number....

you can get all 10 for 230 from rockauto

#5 isn't bad, just have to remove/move some of the hoses, but it really isn't bad

So drove the car to see Solo last night and the same CEL popped up. Damn

whem I put the coil on I did not tighten the bolt all the way and the coil was a bit loose. I plan to put new coil bolts in as the hardest part of the job is getting the rusty bolts off. Turns out the connector to the coil pipes off. Put back on and tightened coil a little more and all is good.

I saw replacement stainless bolts on eBay for $8. Stainless OK into aluminum heads?

i did not use dielectric grease on the coils. Is there some in there already? There was a big glop on both the coils I took off already. Do you guys use it? Manual is silent on the topic. I did put anti seize on the plugs. Also have head recommendation for baby power only in the coil.

I used a dab of dielectric grease on the tip of the spring inside the boot and some more on the outside where I installed O-rings for better water sealing.
Always use a liberal amount of anti seize on any stainless going into aluminum, helps keep the threads from galling. All of my factory COP bolts came out fine and I butter them up before re installation. If your COP connector plug keeps popping off a very small cable tie should keep it on or you could get the new plug ends for all 10.

A loose coil bolt shouldn't cause any problems. I've run several thousand miles without a coil bolt on more than one COP on my Lightning many times, and my '03 F150 too, back when I had one.
