clutch shaft bushing

Hi, just a quick question for clarification if I'm on the right path:

The clutch equilizer shaft 7503 carries the split bushing and this bushing is meant to slide on the ball, right? In my F2, the bushing was stuck with solidified grease on the ball and had turned in the shaft hole instead. Shaft hole and bushing have worn oval and lots of play, which is not remedied with a new bushing alone as the shaft is affected as well. As a temporary fix, I jammed a rolled strip of iron sheet between bushing and shaft. Now the shaft turns without any play on the ball as I think it should have done all the time. Should it?

Yes, the split bushings are meant to turn on the ball. That's about all you can do short of getting a different (new or used) shaft.

If you cant get a new one you can have the inside built up with weld and machine to fit the bushing back in.
If I had a welder I would give it a shot and maybe use a Dremel to make it round again if you don't want to use a shop.

On my 80 F100 I had to fix the block side pivot 2 times.
First because the bushing were gone and it wore the pivot so the bushing would not fit.

Welded, grind to ruff shape and the rest by hand file.

After all that the damn thing broke and I have not even driven it yet!

I used a bolt of the right thread size, cut the head off and welded it on to the pivot.
This was done because you cant get this part any more so you do what you have to.

Will do. I either build up with weld first or turn it true in a lathe right away and put another thin bushing in, to compensate for the enlarged but round+ centered hole again.

Thank you, Bill.

A new bushing is of course in order.
