A very beat 59 F100
Here is a picture of the truck:
It was owned by my friend who passed away recently. It was going to be scrapped but I stepped up got it and want to see if I can make it run again. He put on a front from a 60 for some reason and gave it a nice house paint / shaggy roller paint job. I found out why he never closed the hood and just drove it that way. The latch is very rusty and doesn't move. He just wouldn't go very fast.
I'll share more about it, but first I'm hoping someone could help me with the ID tag on the glove box door. It's painted over so I can't make out the labels, but the data looks like this:
F10L8R17496
110 X 11 M C 01
5000 153 4100
Hopefully this door and tag are original and not from the 60 he parted.
Thanks for looking.

In '73 I special ordered a Mach 1 Mustang and it was built - forget exact date - but July '73 and it was one of the very last '73 Mustangs built before changing over to the much different '74 Mustang II models which began in late Aug or early Sep '73. ND, can you clarify this policy and when they started doing it that way? Thanks -

Didn't model year changes occur in August? I know they do now, but I'm not sure how far back that practice goes. Another pickle is half year designations. I've owned two old Fords with 1/2 in the title. One a 57 1/2 Courier, the other a 64 1/2 Fairlane. I need to look for the vin stamping on the frame rail of this truck and see if maybe he swapped the glove box door. He did own several similar trucks at one time. I'll be looking at the top of the frame in the vicinity of the passenger front wheel correct?

Part of the challenge in making it run again is dealing with this mess. I went to the library and copied a wiring diagram from a 61 truck. Everything seems the same except the color of the gas tank sending unit wire, that and some routing differences. It's close enough that I can work with it anyway. He ditched the ballast resistor so I'm expecting the points aren't happy. I haven't looked at them yet though. He also tapped into the front lights for the tail lights instead of using the wires meant for them. There are other issues here, but I think you can get an idea of what I'm up against.

I'm familiar with 63 1/2 Falcons and Galaxies, but never heard of a 1957 1/2 Courier or 1964 1/2 Fairlane.
1963 1/2 introduced the Falcon Sprint, 260 V8/T-10 4 speed in Falcons, Fastback roof line and 427 engine in Galaxies.
What was significant about Couriers and Fairlanes?

I want to remove the harness and am wondering if anyone has experience pulling the two rectangular rubber junction blocks seen the above picture. I see that I can pull what plugs into them from the engine side. I'm hoping that what remains can be pushed/pulled towards the passenger compartment. If I accomplish that, I can get it out.

I've been searching bone yards around me for a truck that I can find useful parts from and got lucky. There's 59 4wd not too far away. I went out there and grabbed a bunch of stuff I was missing. The most important part to come home with me is the wiring harness. It was almost complete. It has a few issues but is much better than what the truck has. Here you can see my work identifying everything. I'm pretty happy about this. I also grabbed a bunch of other bits that were missing, ballast resistor, voltage regulator. horn relay, generator brackets ( I still need a generator), those nifty things that hold the spark plug wires so they don't lay on the exhaust manifolds (I was wondering how that was supposed to be), a braided ground strap, hi/low head light switch, a nice set of points and condenser, and other odds and ends. I got out of there pretty cheaply and am feeling much better about this project. I saw several generators there, but they were all in pretty sad condition. My flaps sell rebuilt ones but not with a pulley wheel. I'll come up with something though.

I figured out that the cab is a 1960, originally green and the glove box door is originally yellow. The harness I got is from a 59 which passes through the firewall in a round hole unlike this 60 cab which used two rectangular holes. No biggie, I can deal with that. I've been prepping the new harness. It had a few bad splices that needed repair plus I swapped in a couple of new wires to replace some questionable ones. I removed the old harness which turned out to be a mix of 1960 and newer stuff. There was absolutely no connections for turn signals nor brake lights. What there was for ignition, I honestly don't know how it ever worked. I managed to get a correct headlight switch from a 58 Fairlane which tests good except for the rheostat which I have removed and am soaking it in acid in the hopes that I can clean the corrosion. I'm not too hopeful about that though. It's not really a big deal - who dims their dash lights anyway? I expect I'll leave it out, run the dash lights off the R terminal since that's where they get power anyway, and provide a switch somewhere for the dome light. I put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the engine cylinders and will try to turn it over by hand soon. I only get a little time each day to mess with the truck. I'm still rounding up parts. I'm still looking for a generator and pully wheel. I forgot to grab the headlight circuit breaker when I was last visiting the parts truck. I'm waiting on an ignition switch to arrive. I am going to use a universal one since the original mounting hole is really buggered up and this truck is in no way a candidate for stock restoration. Anyway, I just wanted you all to know that progress is being made albeit slowly and I'll keep this thread updated.
