#8 injector died. 6.0 left me stranded again!
Short story, towing 5er to Michigan for work from Dallas TX , started smoking and knocking or something under the hood, pulled over. Limped to the next exit that had an rv park. Put IDS on it and #8 is dead. Also either cam or crank sensor code with it. But I'm pretty sure that's a by product of the abrupt loss of the cylinder. So either I'm replacing that injector tomorrow or buying a new truck! But the dealerships aren't open within an hour of here on a Sunday, so I would have to buy from O'Reilly or AutoZone or the like. Or wait until Monday but in supposed to be in Michigan by today at 1pm... kinda at a crossroads with this truck. Open to suggestions.

Out of curiosity, what would happen if you unplugged a bad injector and ran on the remaining 7?
If you have an uneven crank sound, like it has no compression on 1 cylinder, it's too late BTW... You already have a hole in something like a valve or piston. I've been there, trust me that's what it sounds like cranking with a torched exhaust valve and a melted piston...

Crank sounds fine. Starts fine. I'm not counting out a broken valve though. There is a noise I haven't heard before when I lost #5. It runs like an engine with a misfire. LOL shakes, lacks power, smokes, turning the injector off using IDS didn't make a difference. And I'm towing 15k so that complicates things. The noise is a loud slapping or tapping noise. Speeds up with rpms. I'm concerned it may be beyond an injector but I'm hoping. So no I can't run on the 7. I limped it a mile to an rv park but I'm hesitant to go further.

Okay I was able to get an injector on a Sunday for that I'm very thankful. Put it in got everything button back up turn it on and according to IDs number eight is still dead. I did the relative compression test and cylinder 1 and cylinder 8 are both below cylinder 1 is 19% below cylinder 8 is 12% below what does that mean?

Serious engine loss of compression. The percentage is way low, 3% is a concern to me. So either compression is being lost due to integrity of an injector sealing to the head, piston hole or sidewall damage, valve damage. Not going to know until it comes apart. While it might be from fluid not being blown out of an injector screw hold down, you had the loss before replacing the injector.
Considering you had to do 5 recently, you might have an issue with fuel pressure or quality, damaging injectors. Damaged injectors don't play nice with pistons.
Can you do a video of it cranking over with the starter jumper?
