I’ve never had the chance to drive the truck and don’t know when was the last time it was on the road. 15-20 years ago?
After rebuilding the carb I’ve parked it in the garage. I only used first and reverse. I assumed that at least the transmission is ok.
Is it possible to inspect and rebuild the trans with average mechanical skills and hand tools?

Pull the plate on the side of the transmission and see if you have three shoes mounted on the synchro assembly, you will probably have to slide the collar forward or backwards to see them. If they are still there bolt it back up, jack the rear end off the ground, crank the engine and see if it will shift through the gears without any problems.

If these came out with the fluid, I would definitely open it up and tear it down before I drove it again.
On a side note, what have you guys put in for trans fluid after rebuilds or fluid changes? I use Red Line manual trans fluid in my old Volvo and it really seemed to tighten things up nicely.

OK, the trans is out of the truck.
After some reading here on this board I found out that this is probably a passenger car transmission.
After opening the case we've found two problems.
One of the synchronizer rings is so bady worn that two of the shoes were able to fall out from the assembly.
One tooth is broken off from the countershaft gear.
According to my 1948-54 truck parts manual 7124 is the group number for the sync assembly, part number: 8M 7124.
I've only found part no: C2AZ-7124-A listed on ebay for 1949-62 and in another auction for 1957-62.
What do you think, what synchronizer assembly shoud I buy?
Is it a widely used part and interchangeable between model years, trucks and cars?
