'75 F-100 - a question
I'm really thinking of buying a 1975 F-100 custom from my buddy. It has 106K miles on it, a straight 6 (not sure at this point which one), ZERO rust on the body, and a super heavy duty bed on it made of heavy corrugated steel. It has to have been a base model, it doesn't even have a cab light or lighter and there are zero indications it ever did (no wear on any of the paint). Heck, I don't even think it had the door panels on it when it was purchased new. The original owner worked at an airport and used it for driving on the tarmac, and I think that was pretty much it. I've been driving it for a few days now, and it runs great, everything works. He's asking $3500 for it. Is this a good/super good/fair price?
Love the older trucks - no d***ed computers to deal with - lol And SOOOOO much room under the hood! :-)
Thanks!
Jon

Runs and drives well and "no rust". Sounds like a fair price. I would like to see a picture of the truck & "corrugated metal bed". That sounds different.
Depending on past maintenance, it may need some catch up. Also at 106k miles the original engine may last a good bit longer. Or not.
As long as you are prepared to take care of it and (enjoy it!) good deal.

F100 was probably sold new as a Cab & Chassis (no "back of cab equipment"), then the bed it has now was added after the fact.
All 1973/79 trucks came with door trim panels (see pic), the Custom was the "price leader" .. cheapest of all the models.
Beginning in 1975, the 300 I-6 was the only 6 cylinder available.

Thanks guys, I'll get some pics of it as soon as it stops raining. I am currently driving a 2000 F-150 which has 'cancer' all over where all of them do, but I've maintained it and kept it going pretty well to 232K miles with the original engine (V6). I kind of look at this as my version of a mid life crisis, I miss simplicity in a truck. No damned computer & a bazillion sensors to annoy me about mostly nothing that I'm already aware of.
Thanks also for letting me know it's a 300. Wasn't aware of the history!
I appreciate the feedback from everyone & will post pics in the next day or so.
Great group!

Me too. I've had issues with the tail gate on my 2000 F-150, the hinges are shot and the cross members (?) under the bed are mostly rusted out. I had the bed coated with Line X when I got it, but the problem is under the Line X. This flat bed would really come in hand for moving firewood or just about anything else - except for dirt or sand - lol I do think I'm gonna buy this truck, it's fun to drive and simple to work on. I was 15 when this truck came out and learned to work on vehicles from the 60's & 70's. No damned computers!
