Towing Question- is this too much

I am looking at a travel trailer, it weights 9,000 when its empty i figure i will end up with 1,200 of my stuff in it
and about 1,000# of cargo and people in my excursion.

i have the Hellwig rear sway bar and 1 ton springs

is this too much for it?

(Read the whole thread for some good notes and upgrades. There are some still convinced that I will eventually kill small children...)

I think you are good. Make sure you have a proper wieght distribution hitch. Mine in this pic was a little heavier than we had planned and was right about 1750lb tongue weight.

Along with the hitch (the Pro Pride is one of the best). what gear ratio are you running with the 35`s?

If i already have the 1 ton leafs and the Hellwig rear sway bar on the excursion, will the Roadmaster HD Active Suspension System be of any value?

If you need anything more than the springs, I would personally opt for air bags.

I completely agree. I upgraded from a 7,500# loaded trailer using an Equal-i-zer 1,200#, which I was completely satisfied, to my current 11,000# loaded with a Sway Pro 1,400#, and it was terrible, no matter how I adjusted it. I upgraded to the ProPride with no regrets (just a thinner wallet).

why would to you go with the airbags?

i had been thinking adding Timbren Suspension Enhancement System on it till the above post mentioned the Roadmaster Active Suspension Kit. Not sure the latter will work with my lift though.

My suspension has never felt weak pulling my current trailer, but with the new trailer is going to be 1,500 - 2,000# heavier. Just want to make sure my Rig is as stout as it can be.

In my case, I'm still running the Excursion rear springs. I added AirLift airbags to level the truck when carrying a load. I then the standard Roadmaster and with that 15k trailer it wasn't enough; we swapped with the heavy duty Roadmaster version. Even with the HD Roadmaster we still need the airbags pumped up to around 45.

Plus, the airbags tend to settle the boncing of back of the truck more.

At this point, with the HD Roadmaster and bags, I don't personally see a need to swap to F-350 springs. But even if I started with -350 springs I think I'd like having airbags to allow me to adjust the back end and help settle things down.

Air bags offer far more weight carrying and adjustability than any other suspenion add-ons and can easily be bled down when not towing for a smoother ride.
I tow our 41' (hitch to bumper) 11,300+lbs TT with modded B codes and a Hensley Arrow WD hitch with 1400lb bars (the biggest bars for this hitch), the TT has 1800+lbs of tongue weight so I still get a little more squat then I really want, air bags are on my mods-to-do list. My current setup tows and handles pretty well, I'd just like to have the EX a bit more level when towing.

They are infinitely adjustable so you can set them up as soft or as firm as you want depending on your load (or lack of a load).

I love mine.
