Remote start worth it?

Advice needed: For those who have this, is it worth it? For those who don’t, do you wish you would’ve ordered it?

I have a 19’ STX on order as of early April. To my knowledge, I’m nowhere close to a deadline to make order changes....so should I call dealer and add it to my order? Thanks for responding

If you are in a cold weather climate, it's not just a nice to have, it's mandatory.

Although------don't really expect for your truck to heat up in cold weather with remote start. That's why I got it --but it seems like the truck does not warm up without driving it. Do not have the supplemental heater --so maybe that is the key to warming the truck up.

I never used the one on my old truck so I skipped it when I ordered my new one. I think it’s one of those personal preference things. The only one who knows whether it’s worth it or not is you. Do you think you’d use it?

I use it for three things
#1 Help engine up to temp when I'm still getting ready and loading up. Yep still ol school.
#2 Getting interior cooled down in summer.
#3 I use it as a turbo timer when pulling a trailer. Not exactly the same but very close enough. When I pull in somewhere I kill engine, jump out and then remote start. I have it set for 5 minutes. The engine will run at idle for 5 minutes allowing everything to cool then will shut down at 5 minutes. Many say you don't need it on these trucks but can't hurt in my eyes.

I've never had or used remote start before, but I did option it on my 2018 order. My truck is parked about 150' from the front door of my house, so walking out, starting the truck, and walking back in the house can suck in the winter...especially with snow on the ground. I figured it would be well worth the couple bucks a month...

Deffenatly worth it if you think you would ever need or want to have one. It's nice to have hear in St. Louis in the wintertime. Aftermarket will cost you more then the factory one, and then you have different fobs to keep up with. Many places are making it illegal to start your car with the keys and leave them in the car due to theft. The remote start locks the doors and starts the car. The vehicle basicly dies if you hit the brake or try to put it in gear without the key in it. Worth the $250in my opinion. I had one installed on my wife's Avalanche last year and it was $325 installed.

You can set the time limit of 5, 10 or 15 minutes in your settings. Then you can double that time by doing the start sequence a second time. So if you have it programmed to start and run for 5 minutes you can actually make it run for 10 minutes if you do it twice. You can also kill it from the remote if you wish to stop the engine for some reason.

Diesel + Cold Weather its a must have. Engine takes a while to heat up, even driving. But that 15-30 minutes of idle time definately helps. I also believe cold weather climates, Ford automatically puts in the supplemental heater.

It’s a must have for the 9 months of hot weather we have. There’s nothing like using remote start, then getting in to a cool truck when the weather is in the high 80s or 90s.

Living in New England it is mandatory. Mornings where it's single digit temps or lower it gets the truck nice and warm for me before I even get into it and when it's 90 in the summer it cools it off. Absolute necessity. I don't have auto HVAC so I just make sure to set the heat to MAX w/ defrost when I park it at night. Same with AC in summer. Get it and don't look back!

Are we talking remote start thru your phone with Smart Pass??? My 18 doesn't have it, I thought it would based on all the options I ordered. It does have the key fob remote start but that has about a 40ft range

I agree with you, turbo timers are borderline mandatory. I wish I would have gotten remote start for this reason, but now I just build cool down time into my schedule and get somewhere five minutes early so I can let it run. But, turbo timers are a good thing, and should be used after running a turbo'd engine hard.
