Transmission shudder in reverse

I'm brand new (registered) to the forum and I know I'm probably going to get beat up. I searched and could not find anything on my issue. I have a 2017 fX4 screw 6.2 with 8900 miles. The issue is that while backing my camper I'll get a "shudder" if i give it some gas to get over a bump or bind. It's almost like its a safety mech to prevent to much gassing and possibly loosing control. It feels like may be the transmission slipping but I don't know. It has done it several times. The dealer obviously couldn't find the problem and couldn't replicate it. Question is for the towers out there if anyone has experienced this issue?

F-350 or F-250? The model is important as it will help determine if you have the 6r140 or 6r100 transmission.

1. Have you had the trailer connected when trying to replicate the problem for the dealer?
2. Have you tried backing up using 4Lo instead of 2Hi? This is a fairly common trick for some to use to reduce the stress on the transmission when backing up.

I have researched and found that this issue was common in the 4r100 in earlier super duty models. Don't know how similar they are to the 6r100.

Well the issue isn't really just backing up with the trailer it's replicating the extra stress like backing a camper into an unimproved spot over a root or up an uneven slope etc. that would require a little extra peddle to overcome. thats when the sudder come in. If i just idle back or slight gas while backing suck as in a flat parking lot or in my driveway....no issues. I really wouldn't think i would need 4lo to back into a camping spot with an F250 since i used to do it all the time in my 2004 F150 Lariat screw with the 5.4l and 4r80 tranny without an issue ever.

Getting wheel slip? Could be TC/ABS kicking in. Do you have an e-locker? That could help if it is wheel slip over unstable terrain while backing up.

I'm an avid off roader and wheel slip is a very distinctive sound and feel to me that i recognize. As far as the ABS I really hope that's what it is, The only argument to that would be that the shudder feels like it comes from the transmission area.

yes, i agree wheelspin is easy to feel - that's why i was wondering if the ABS/TC was trying to prevent the wheelspin from happening at all.

Short or long box - curious as the 8' has a 2 piece driveshaft.

I know in other trucks I've owned 2 piece DS can shudder under weird loads - but even I doubt that at the speed your going, but just putting it out there.

Stick a 2x4 block under one or more of the wheels on the truck or trailer to simulate a root/bump. Then try backing up over that.

New transmission, new issues.

Yes I get the same issue. I have a slope driveway. Sometimes(not all the time) when I back in my truck it feels like a shudder. Kinda like traction control or something.

The reverse shudder was mentioned by a few members in this thread. Hope my new truck doesn’t start doing it!

Interesting thread. I just felt this when backing up my camper last weekend. It may of happened when going forward too. My wife even commented on it as she's sitting in the passenger seat. No wheel slip in my case or loss of traction. The wheels were on flat, dry pavement and I was going maybe 1 or 2 MPH. Something to keep watching for.
