Question Correct air filter for 2017 F250 6.2

I am about to replace the engine air filter on my gas '17 F250 but I am having a problem on which is the correct filter. The manual clearly states that Motorcraft FA-1883 is the correct part, but when I check the Ford parts website as well as at my local dealers parts dept. I was told that the correct part is FA-1928. Normally I would just chalk it up to an updated part number, but they are completely different filters shape wise.
What am I missing?

Checked my OM and it states Motorcraft FA1928 for the air filter element.

Thanks! I guess my manual is incorrect. The back says June 2016 First Printing.

My OM also specs the FA-1928 engine air filter for our 2017 F350 6.2. I just changed the EAF a few days ago, and the new 1928 fit perfectly.

The early OMs contain several errors. I recommend downloading the latest version; I have a pdf of Printing #3.

What are you guys paying for the filter? I see $35-$42.

The FA-1883 is a different filter altogether so I assume its the 2017MY change. Too bad since it's only $12.

Local dealers all wanted $58-$65, found it online for just a hair over $40 as well.

Just got mine from Amazon, 45$. Not many stores, including Walmart are selling Motorcraft air filters anymore. Where I live anyway...

I just attempted to replace the air filter on my 2017 F250 gasser. I guess I didn't pay enough attention when I took it out. I didn't notice at first that the bottom is different on one end than the other. One end has plastic pieces, the other end does not. I cannot seem to find a reference to which end goes which direction. Does anyone know for sure?

Not sure it matters or I'd hope it would be keyed somehow. Anyhow, the end with the plastic pieces are on the engine side on my truck.

Thanks. That's how I thought I remembered it. It doesn't seem to be keyed in any way. I tried it both ways to see, and could find no difference, but why the plastic?

I just changed my engine air filter on my 2017 F250 and I was wondering what the wires attached to the side are for? They got disconnected when I lifted the cover. They look to just clip to the outside of the filter case. Hoping that all it is. Can anyone let me know if that’s all that needs 5o be done with them.

That is the mass air flow sensor and yes, you need it. Just in case you aren't aware there is also a cabin air filter. I'm about to change both for the first time soon.

Does that sensor just attach to the side of the filter case? Yes, I also changed my cabin filter. The dealership wanted to charge $100 and I said now way, saved myself $80 dollars. Thanks
